In the beginning of the game, all the doorways that you need to go through are already open.

Later, when you start to encounter closed doors that you need to move through, there is a specific way to open each.

After you get a better sword, you can break down some weak points in some of the walls in order to create a doorway. Some doors are opened by a pressure plate that you stand on in the floor. Others are opened by pulling on a lever. Still others are opened by pulling a handle out of the wall. Some respond to the turn of a crank. Sometimes you have to shine light onto a symbol.

It all depends on where you are in the game and what door you are trying to open, but you can never simply walk up to a door and physically open it, if that's what you mean.

You mentioned something about an "action button?" If you need to pull a lever or handle, then you will need to use the "action button," I suppose. I don't know what version of the game you are using, but I am playing on the PS2 and the "action button" is R1.

If you're not using the PS2, it's very likely that the "action button" is the same button that you use to block in combat.

If not, why don't you try reading the manual?

    Jennelle's right about all that.

There is no button you press to open a door when you walk up to it, if that's what you mean. (For example, in Goldeneye on n64 the player had to press B to open a door. Not so in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.)
