All versions are 16:9 only.
XBox and PS2 are progressive scan.
Can't find out if Gamecube is progressive scan but IGN review states that their review copy is NOT progressive scan. Hopefully the delay in release of the Gamecube version is changing that !
I would assume someone at Ubisoft would know these details . I would prefer the Gamecube version but only if it runs in progressive scan too.

Are you sure the PS2 version supports progressive scan? It's not listed anywhere on the back of the box.

I got the PS2 version on Friday and it definitely has 480p which looks great.
I live in the UK so this is a PAL release but the progressive scan is an option so it must be on the USA version. The box doesn't say but I had read it in the review on Gamespy.com before I bought it.
I have a USA Gamecube and would prefer the cube version and can trade in or return the PS2 one. But I'd like to cancel my order for the cube version before it is posted, if it is not in 480p

The game is defintely progressive scan on the ps2. BUT I have a major problem with the "widescreen" support of this game.
The game is presented in a letterbox format, which gives you a 16:9 aspect ratio on a 4:3 tv. But for those of us with widescreen HDTV televisions, we are screwed because the game DOES NOT support anamorphic widescreen.
So not only do we get a stretched image, but we get a stretched image with black bars on the top and bottom. So all HDTV owners are getting it in the rear. Which completely baffles me since the developers went to the effort of supporting progressive scan, which is primarily an HDTV format, and they are obsessed with a cinematic presentation (hence the letterbox format), but for some reason COMPLETELY forgot to support anamorphic widescreen.
Thankfully for them, this game is amazing, so I can't not recommend this game, but I am extremely disappointed with the lack of anamorphic widescreen support, considering the developers insistence on the use of a cinematic presentation.

I signed up to let UBI know that I am now NOT buying this game because it is widescreen, but will not fill my widescreen TV. I don't think spoken word can convey how stupid that is. I played the PC demo and thought the game was so awesome that even though I had never even heard of it, I was planning on buying it based on the demo and that it's from the creator of Rayman2 (second only to Mario64 in splendor) and that it would be awesome on my 53" HiDef WIDESCREEN TV and surround sound. But I refuse to play a game that was developed 16x9 stretched... I hope someone from UBI is reading this.

I agree 100%. I rented the Xbox version, and the decision to not support an anamorphic presentation was idiotic. They got it right for Rayman 2, why not for BG&E?
I won't be buying BG&E, because it looks like crap on a widescreen tv. It's either stretched, windowboxed, or zoomed in so that it looks ultra-blocky.
I would expect this from an old N64 game, not from an Xbox game.

FYI,
PC version has an hidden option (Easter egg) that removes the black bands out of cinematics.
