I have three problems with Lock On (German Version, Patch 1.01 (maybe?) installed!) and i hope there ist someone who can help:

    1. I have Windows ME installed withe a 9800 Radeon (not PRO) and an AMD 2600+ with 512 RAM

First Problem: I own the german Version of Lock On. When i try to install the 1.01 Patch, the Patch-Programm open's the MS-DOS Window and start extracting the files. But when reaching the last File, Lock On.exe, it stops going on. In every other MS-DOS-Patch you know that it is over, when the "Finish"-Text appears on the Top of the MS-DOS-Box. In the Lock On-Patch there is no Finishing-Message. After a few minutes i close the window by myself. The result is, that when i'm starting a training file (for example) i got the Message, that the Version of the Video-Files is not the same as the Version of the Exe-File and that there can be problems while playing.

Second Problem: I'm not sure, but i think it's about the incorrect patching. When playing A-10-Training-Mission 2 (and the other after this one), the A-10 crashes and there ist nothing i can do about it. The settings for Training are correct (60â?, no mirrors etc.). I heard that playing the unpatched game will solve this problem, but the unpatched game is unplayable on Windows ME. There are so many prob's that it becomes a torture even to set the options! There are also other Training-Problems. When i take control of the plane to replay the Mission by myself, it freezes sometimes when i'm choosing the Map-Screen or when shooting many unguided Rockets at once. It seems that if there is much smoke, it's over with fun=Freeze!

Third Problem: In the german Version of Lock On there is following sentence on the Geme-Box: Game and Manual in German! Yes, the Game is in german. BUT - the manual is NOT in German. Or better said, there is NO Manual at all! And the manual available for download is only English. Maybe my English is not sooo bad, but Lock On is not an WASD-Game like a simple Shooter and the English used in the Manual is very complicated. So, does anybody know where i can download a German Manual? Or ... is there a german Manual at all?

The first two problems are the same problem - it's to do with the way Lomac records the training tracks.

Essentially, Lomac (as Flanker and IL2) records the inputs made, and then recreates what happened. The problem is that when you change the game engine, different things end up happening . . . .
Unfortunately, there's no way around it. The training missions have to be remade to work properly for every patch.

Ironhand's training tracks are usually up to date, though.

Problem 3 - no, there is no German manual.

    Ubi are cheapskates . . .

    Hi,

problems 1 and 2 are unavoidable because of the way the track system works. Tracks cannot be kept compatible over different program versions when flight or weapon parameters change - for normal as well as training tracks. That's why you get this warning and strange results when watching them.

The 2nd patch that is announced should contain new training tracks that are compatible with that version.

Now the "Ubi manual disaster" is indeed still a shame... overall the localization for German and French versions meant leaving out the essentials and translating stuff which should have stayed English (like radio comms)... well we were all pretty upset about this for some weeks already

Anyway we have setup a project to translate the manual to German. Progress is a bit slow currently (I'm occupied with too many things personally), but it's still going on, and about half of it is already done. I don't even have a link ready for you, but I'm sure someone in the German forum can help you out.

To run the original training tracks you can simply install another copy of lomac and leave it unpatched. Use that to view the training.

Thank you for this fast answers and help. I'll try it with flankertraining.com :-)

And to Caretaker. and his project to translate the Lock On Manual: For me it's a big thing to translate this manual at all. Especially in your private time! And it's a shame, that eager Hobby-Pilot's have to deal with job's, that Ubi-Soft was meant to do!

But after all, Lock On is a great game - especially in times, wich are very hard for PC-Hobby-Pilots ...

(For example: A so called "Game Tester" in Germany wrotes, that Lock On is only 45 of 100 Points worth!! Right next to that sentence her wrote also, that People who like Flight-Sim's can coun't easily about 90%!! So, what do you think about that?? What would they say, when great games like Warcraft 3 would get only 40% with a hint, that you can add another 50%, if you like Real-Time-Strategy??? People would cry out scandalized!!!)
