Thread: Crash / lockup fix for GeForce4 | Forums

well I found this in another forum and since no one else
posted something like this here I decided to do so.

this will fix the lockups which occur when u try to get
into the game itself after planning.

the solution is very simple:
go to the Display Properties (right click on the desktop and then Properties)
now go to the Settings tab and click on the Advanced button (on the lower right)
now go to the GeForce4 tab and in the menu which appears on
the left click on Performance & Quality Settings

* due to different versions of drivers or the GeForce4 card itself (I have GeForce4 MX 440 for example)
it is possible that the button's name will be something with Antialising
if u can't find that either, try going through all the buttons and look for what is written below:

in the lower left a check box will appear - Texture Sharpening
it will probably be Unchecked so check it, that is what causing the problems

that's it, just one little check box...
this isn't guaranteed to solve all the problems, I still have blue screens and the game sometimes crashes
in the planning but I think that's just overheating
it SHOULD however solve the lockup which occurs in the Deploying Team screen, it did for me anyway

as far as I know it is only meant for GeForce4 cards, maybe for GeForce3 too so try it out and tell me if it worked

for further help refer to my other post:

unless that's how u got here

EDIT: added the possibility of another name for the button and some rephrasing

I think that this may be the solution to the lag in my LAN games. Even more so because I have a GeForce4. But I can't complete your instructions on how to fix it. I can get as far as going to the GeForce4 tab, but after that, I can't find the Quality and Performance settings button. I looked all over the place, and can't find that or the Texture Sharpening box. Do you know if this method works with Windows XP? Thats my computer's operating system. Thanks

well, I rechecked what was said in that post and these r my conclusions:

probably cuz of different versions of drivers or maybe
different versions of the GeForce4 card (I have GeForce4 MX 440),
in the menu that pops on the left when u press on the GeForce4 tab,
u need to press on something with Antialising, instead of on "Performance & Quality Settings".
it should be the second one, when the first one is Nview.
the rest should still be the same - on the lower left there will be a checkbox - "Texture Sharpening", uncheck it.

if u can't find that Antialising thingy too, try going thru all the buttons in that popup on the left and
try looking for that Texture Sharpening checkbox.

hope u'll find it

I have six options under GF4 tab: (I have MX 420)

* allow applications to control the antialising mode

* manually select antialising mode:
-off (no antilasing)
-2x
-Quincunx Antialising
-4x
-4xS (Direct3D only)

What do I select?
