Since AOD gets invoked in this forum more times than God does in the Bible, it seems like AOD is the yardstick upon which SH3 will be measured. I can't tell from reading the biographies of the Dev Team if they have ever played AOD or not. Therefore, it behooves this community to give the Dev Team the opportunity to play AOD, so they can understand and Believe.
If the Dev Team has played AOD, then please disregard.

LOL! I'll pay for the postage!

which version do you want to send? , got the floppy , CD and Command version ^_â?
and the expansion disk (lol, its really a disk) and so many manuals to beat someone to death
-
Nobody can tell me gameplay isnt more important than graphics. I hope the dev team is listening. AOD has never been beat.

Damn, I found a scan of that map some years ago in the net. 7,5 megs. C00l one. Just some months ago I got the old DOS AoD (dunno if it's with the Addon
, it's a CD, german version), that map rocks! If I'd fold it another time, it would even fir into a DVD box
(@Ubi
). The manual is just ~100 pages, but great.
I've still got an AoD installaion on my HDD which I DLed some years ago
, including the addon. And I can still run it under XP
. All you need is the DOSbox ( http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/ ), and a good CPU. I've got a Barton 2500+ running at 2800+ and it's still a bit slow (because the CPU does everything, including sound and graphics)
, but it runs. You just have to disable Extended Memory (XMS) completely it the dosbox.conf file, it won't run with XMS. It still has a great feeling that SH II never gives. I just hope that SH III will get me the same feeling as AoD - and it's going towards it with that graphics, the crew you'll see and manage and all the stuff it's going to feature. The only thing that's not 100% clear is the campagin
. It needs a dynamic, random campaign like Aces had, with some scripted elements (say historical events). No missions campaign pls
.

hmmm , yes that BdU chart is nice (got 2 of em
)
and I think even AOD had scripted elements if you can call them that , if a aircraftcarrier left a port and headed to a certain location , it happened in AOD at the time when it happened in real life if the programmers had correct time data, thats what i remember reading in some reviews years ago when it was released...
one of the best thing was the random aircraft encounter in vicinity of the coast , and the circling F4F wildcat as it reprts your position to the convois DDs
and many think sh1 was nice , well it has nice gfx , but very unathmospheric svga for my taste , the papercut ships (2d blerg) where the major lowpoint , my favorite screen in sh1 was the damage screen
as i nearly cant get myself to play trough the sh2 campaign, I have yet to see any aircraft in the game
-
sidenote: expansion disk was included in command version , not in normal CD version, if unsure check for the type XXI version boat with active sonar and surface radar

Amen!

My manual doesn't describe how to use the deck gun. So it's without addon
. The command version had sucky sound BTW
.
Try out SH2 with Messerwetzer and those Campaigns at http://www.9teuflottille.de/ . I played the subsim 2.Kampagne myself without Messerwetzer (didn't exist when I was playing it), and it was much better than the original one. One big +: Primary target is always return to base. If your eels all miss or are duds, return and take the next tour. It doesn't matter. The "Aces Kampagne" looks quite good as well while reading their description (German). Never tried it.
