Thread: People w. Problems | Forums

My question to you is this: How many people are experiencing these problems with the punkbuster button and trouble signing onto servers? I have talked to several people who have had no problems at all. What makes the difference between it working for some people and not working for others?

i have had very few problems joining servers.

i tried copying over the pb folder listed in the other threads but it just gave me an error saying it was an incompatible version. i switched back and now it works fine (it didn't work before, so it's possible there's already been a non-publicized update on the punkbuster servers or whatever it is that they use to do internal version checking.)

the other thing is to join servers that are likely to let you in. if a server says it's full or says that it's in "J" mode it's unlikely you will get in. why? this problem is more easily demonstrated if you look at the demo version.

in the demo version, in room1 there are usually something like 400 players. but there are only around 32 servers listed. that's more than 10 players for every server which only holds 4. when you pick a game that says "J" most likely there are a ton of other people who are trying to connect as well.

it also takes several seconds to update or refresh the list. so it's quite possible that someone made a server, then left, but it still shows up on your list for a while.

your best bet is to join servers that are "I" in progress but have less then 4 players. in thse cases, you may have to wait till the current game ends to play but you will be in when it's over. i can get onto servers like this 90% of the time.

also if you are having problems and have a good connection, just make a server! i almost always just start servers and within 3-4 minutes it is full and will stay full for hours. even if people quit new ones will usually be in by the next game.

don't get me wrong, i think the app, it's a bit buggy still, (especially the crash to desktop that was fixed in mpDemo but not full yet) but you can workaround most of the major problems using the info above, hopefully.

also, remember to be nice to the orphans.

thanks, that helps a lot. i have tried making servers but no one joins and the more i think aobut it, the more i think that perhaps i have a firewall on and am unaware? Another question is if there will ever be more then one room in the lobby full of servers?
