Thread: Refueling in F-15 and A-10 | Forums

Ok, Ive done this about once or twice, even after watching a demo of doing it in the F-15, then tried it in the Su-33 after watching a guide to that (Thanks IRONHAND!!! )

This got me thinking.. the Su has a refueling submode, which Im assuming is accurate, and the American planes changes to say Rf(the F-15 at least) in the corner, but Ill assume this is accurate too. What I dont get, is:

1st - Does that little submode for the F-15 tell you anything useful, it may have range to tanker, but thats all I can gather, could it atleast show speed or something and...

2nd - If thats not accurate, should there at least be a little more radio communication than "Cleared Contact" ie. when the tanker radios that its ready for you, could it atleast say its speed and altitude, even if you dont display it on the hud??

I guess I could get speed from radar(I think, not sure) and use that, but arent planes supposed to refuel with radar off?

    Thanks,
    Ferro

    1) No, I just completed a training track on refuelling with the F-15C, and no, nothing more. Blows really.

But seriously, most of the time I do the F2 view, and adjust my speed that way, or sometimes by feel. It's really a pain in the fourth point of contact IMO.

2)Did you try Radio Assist button in Options? That may help, but other than that, you're basically on your own for merging with the boom.

Refuelling with the F-15C especially requires you to adjust your heading to bring the boom on the left, so you really have to fly a little off to the right, and before you connect, keep making minor adjustments even though you probably figured that out.
