I have tried 9600pro on a P3 700 and a 5200 in a Athlon 3000 and was not happy with either . I bought a fx5900 and put this in the athlon and get great results. I would wait until the FX5900 or 9800 pro prices drop further or try e-bay

As RAM prices are pretty high right now, and you have 512-I'd drop the RAM doubling (spend the money on a video card) and get a decent SVGA-9800PRO or wait a bit longer and get the 6800GT.

Also-using a memory manager with your 512mb would help-as well as OS tweaking.

From the 4 options you gave, I'd stay away from the SE card (slow 64bit memory). I've tried the FX5200 and ATI9200, and the second one has worked alright, on my system, AEP and FB are running smooth in medium to high settings. The 5600 I have never tried, but seems to the better one, because they use to place 5200 and 9200 as rivals, so 5600 should be better.

Good luck on your choice, I know how though it is to struggle in the low and VGA card market, but with some research you can get some decent results on your gaming.

Although it doesnt have dx9 support, I dont think the 5200 or the 9200 will perform as well as your gf3 500. Amybe if you need to save money now, get a cheap card online for your wifes computer and save up for a decent card for yours. As soon as the new midrange cards (based on the x800 and 6800) come out, all the older stuff shold really tumble. You may be able swing a 9800 by then. good luck

Ram want do you much good without a card for it to use. I mean, for what you spend on ram, you could probably come close to buying a 9800 Pro. I am running 512 mb of ram as of now with no probs playing FB. Check out ATI's Trade-Up program. You can end up with a 9800 Pro for $149. Stay away from the ATI's SE and LE stuff. If you go ATI, buy only Pro and XT. Just a thought.

Well Its no wonder the 9600 pro didnt work out. You were so cpu limited, it never had a chance to perform. Its like trying to put a Holly 4 barrel carberator on a lawn mower engine.

Konigwolf, I must agree with poster above who said neither card would be better than your current card, at least not by much at all. I would wait a bit and get minimum a 9600pro. Preferrably the 9800 or 5900.

    Good luck!
