Alienware laptop!!!!
This is your problem!!!
Laptops are not meant for gaming!! As bad as this sounds, it's true.
I played games on my sony Laptop a while back, but the Games just laggged/stuttered and I was getting Crashes to Desktop(CTD) and General
Protection Faults(GPF) with Unreal-2.

ok it runs on my friends laptop and its the same one as i have but has a radeon 9600 in it but i was wondering if anyone had a patch or something that would help...
-
Ok, your laptop is great in terms of processor power and ram, but your video card is sadly lacking. You said that Farcry runs ok on your friends laptop? If this is so, it is because he has a 9600 and you have a 9000. If you want to run Farcry well I would suggest sending your laptop in to alienware for them to upgarade the vid to either a 9600 or 9700 (latest). If you have one of the new user upgradeable ones then u can do this yourself. If u upgrade the card, then your laptop will be fine for farcry and the next gen games like halflife2 and doom 3. Just do'nt expect to play them at full settings.

i would but it would cost like 700 bucks cause i would need a new motherboard. I could build a new computer for that!!! i was just wondering if there was some sort of patch ubi was going to release or something to help me!

It is possible that the upcoming 1.2 patch could solve your problems. It should be realeased between now and the 14th. Its supposed to be a LARGE patch so it may adresss your issues. The other thing that you may wish to try is running the game in opengl rather than direcx9. Opengl makes farcry MUCH faster most of the time but you may get some graphical defects as Opengl is not fully supported by farcry YET, but like I said, it is a very real posssiblitity that this patch will have this on it's list of features.

feelin kinda dumb...how would i switch the setting from direct x to opengl? and would u recomend overclockin the vid card?
-
Ok, I forget exactly how to switch from dirctx9 to opengl, but look for directions in the tech forum that we are in now. I found out how to do it from a guy a few weeks ago. Just look for opengl and keep going back in page #'s untill u get something. Just by chance, if you can't find it, 2 options. 1. contact ubi support, they will tell you how 2. Wait for the 1.2 patch, I am fairly certin that they will be adding ful opengl support in the patch. That means that you can change to opengl right in the farcry menu screen.
As to overclocking your vidcard... There are several excellent tools to use to safely and reliably test your card to get the maximum settings out of it. I'm not terribly familiar with ATI cards but I know that there are reputible tools out there. You can get there at www.guru3d.com. This site brings me to my second point. Instead of overclocking (may be dangerous if you do not have a built in temp monitor),you could try beta drivers from ati. These drivers are also posted on the site. Drivers alone probobly will not make a HUGE difference but it is worth a try. I saw a big performance increase on my 60.40 beta drivers from nvidia. Sooo, If you have any more questions, write back. Good Luck!
