I started with the NES. Never played the Atari. That's probably why I'm such a loyal Nintendo boy, hehe.

Another sad chapter is added to the Atari Legacy:
Feb 7th, 2003 marks the true end of an era unlike any other...
What started out in a garage at 2965 Scott Blvd. Santa Clara Ca. will come to an end at 675 Sycamore in Milpitas today as Midway drops the axe and "Midway Games West" (Formerly Atari Games Corporation) lays off the remaining 30 employee's working there. Many will stay on for a few weeks tying up loose ends and shutting off the lights, but officially today is the day that the worlds Pioneering Video Game Company's legacy and existence comes to an end...
In the coming weeks the building will be cleared of people, furniture, equipment, hardware and paperwork. What was the birthplace of many laughes, smiles, challenges and thrills will slowly and quietly drift off into the nothingness that has been commonplace within the Valley for decades.
To be that last person... the one who will stand in the doorway, looking in and seeing the emptiness of it all, to listen to the quietness that itself will echo a myriad of electronic bleeps and beeps, synthesized theme music and trademark sound effects that many recognize in a heartbeat. The fading glow of screens no more, of flashes and pulses emitting onto the walls, ceiling and long gone faces of gamers and engineers alike... The door will lock and the final car will exit the parking lot, all that is left is a shell that stands alone, stands proud as its ghosts within play-on until the next tenant moves in...

That was predictable since the game console and computer games revolutions grabbed the arcade gamers. I remember when I was young I was spending like 2$ a days in arcades-pinball rooms during my school lunch time. Now all these rooms I so much enjoyed are turned into Pool clubs and Video Pokers. Now if an arcade have to be rentable it have to offer something that consoles or computer can't have. Like dance machine (asians luv these machines ), racer cabin, etc. Konami even producing more Video Pokers than before .
So, I'm not surprise. Fortunately the game for console division seems to be healty (recently contribute for Unreal Tournament 2003 and Neverwinter Nights). Hope no obscure future will haunt this last remain of the gaming heritage.

Unreal Tourney 2k3 is made by Atari yes? So does that mean there will be no more UT games?!?!? I hope not.. they are the people who made the engine for games like Ravenshield. Unreal II also rocked even though not geared for multi player.. I actually sobbed during the fekkin ending.. it was quite touching. Gotta love those types of games that get u that involved. Well if it is the end then Atari has had a long run and is the grandfather of the console. So i salute them for their contributions to the gaming industry

Yes, but you need to know that Atari has 2 divisions, one for home entertainement, and one for Arcades and Consoles. The one who just closed was the arcades and consoles (which was bought by Midway years ago). The Atari home division was bought by Infogramme for taking parts of their numerous divisions, and still active. That's why you still see them around with the latest games such UT2003 and NWN.
