Thread: Any tips on COOL things to do in far cry? | Forums

  1. #1
Lo, I love far cry and have completed it on realistic..wooo. I have no problems with it at all so this isn't a FC bash topic.

Just wondering what mods/tactics/experiments people have tried that may have stirred a new interest in the game, or added to the enjoyment of it anyway.

I've seen some SP maps on other sites, any of them stand out as being really good?

the mountain climbing thread looks interesting, might check out some of that.

What about console commands? etc etc

sry if this type of question has been posed before. This is my first post here.

    Good day

Welcome and congrats on beating the game on realistic.
You mentioned some of the next things to do . Mountain climbing is one. Some of the SP add on levels that are good are Outpost22 and AEcanyon (not finished but still fun to play). I am sure others have more suggestions.
You could try beating some of the levels with pistol only or without firing a shot at all.

If you have broadband, multiplayer has its moments as well.

When playing assault with hum vees i like to launch rockets at a distance to draw the enemy out of their base after me, so my teammates can sack the flag its fun and its effective.

You can beat Training, Fort and Factory without firing a shot, or get to the end of the Pier in less than 9 min without firing a shot (2 ways). What I like to do is take long range near impossible shots. My best 2 were vs the choppers. In Pier, the chopper was hovering over the base camp. Range was so far, I couldn't see it without binocs or using the rocket launcher sights. I watched it for a long while, studying its hover pattern. Then sent off about 10 rounds, before I hit it. You have to shot where you think it will be 15 seconds later.
The other was in River. There's a small base camp with a mortar. Up around the bend is the attack chopper. If you use binocs, you can hear it, and pin point its location. Without being able to see it, lob mortars over the hill. I've hit it 2 different times. Once, and only once, in Research (the demo version) I was up at the mortar site by the shack when the chopper came in with re-enforcements. I hit it with a mortar. I also like to target a merc through the veg.,with binoculars, study the veg pattern, then shoot them with the assault rifle on single shot. Love that long range red X.
Mountain climbing is fun because you can pick off a lot of targets from high ground, and see places you weren't meant to see.
Once you're totally tired of playing the game, open the editor and add stuff,- gliders, extra humVs, boats, more mercs, ammo.. small mods. Its a pretty friendly editor (until you get into scripting). I put a glider on top of the volcano in dam, and put my start point there. You can glide to an atol about a kilometer away, then work your way back. There's a lot you can do with this game, like disable the kill choppers and AKZs, by locating its trigger and check the inactive box.
Have fun with it, you can always save original map under different name to preserve it.

The editor is a pain in the you-know-what till you get the idea of how it works; After that it behaves quite good for a beta product. If you take the time to Zip all the existing levels beforehand (so you can go back), there is no danger in trying things.

At some time I wanted to make a quick "replay mod", just taking all the levels and changing the enemies placements and forces. So you can replay the whole thing without knowing exactly what you will encounter, & where it is. Maybe a big fat Trigen or a couple of speed monkeys in the early levels (no reason to hide them once the player knows they exist)...

Or just a whole game without any armor. Or with a raised damage (one shot = one kill, even for enemies). Or without binoculars and their little omniscient enemy tracker.

Thats where the pain the you know what takes over. entities are scripted and have anchor points, rally points, group id's etc. You'd need to know a litlle about that, or your bad guys will all come at once. You can see where they're anchored and move everything, or, check out the group ID and spec. instructions for one, and replace it with something else with the same parameters, or duplicate it and move it a little. Adding or taking away pick up items is no problem. You can easily change terrain, or remove those kill zones and attack choppers.

I'm in the bunker lab right now, playing on Realistic. Very cool I must say :0

Anyway, something fun that I find while playing, is that if you've killed a couple of guys coming through a door and they slouch together, sometimes one of them will be sitting sortof or won't fall down completely, and you can keep shooting them in the head or whatever and watch them bob.

Twisted but kinda cool for a few cheap giggles
