I seem to recall an engagement between two MiG29's and two F15's, during which the MiG's snuck up on the Americans without AWACS noticing them.

The F15's won. Apparently the servicability of the MiG29's was in question . . . . but being in little pieces over the countryside, we can't exactly tell now.

The March 24 engagement between 2 F-15Cs and 2 MiG-29s was numerically even. Also AWACS didn't see the MiGs until the Eagles' picked them up and committed, so the Eagles did not have that advantage . One MiG's RWR wasn't working and the other had an inop. radar; the fight was no contest at all (even with equal pilot skill levels, which wasn't the case).

I seem to remember watching the history channel a while ago and they had an interview with an F-15 pilot who claimed he got into a BVR engagement with a MiG-29. I forget exactly where it was that this was, it may have been also the Balkans.

He claimed he had to fire 3 missiles (the first two missing due to MiG going evasive) at the MiG to kill it before it ever got a chance to fire.

Anyone know the details on that one?
