Thread: Patch Error: Failure Renaming File | Forums

  1. #1
I am starting to get very annoyed at this. When I hear a new patch for RvS comes out, I think "Oh joy, another reinstall for me." And it's true, another total reinstall of RvS. Whenever there is a new patch, for example, v1.55 to v1.56. I download the patch and run it. It gets all the way done and then gives me the error:
    ---------------------
    Patch Error:
    Failure Renaming File
    ---------------------
This has happend on every patch that is not from v1.0. The only way around it for me is by reinstalling RvS and patching from v1.0 to v1.XX being the latest. And like everyone knows, Ubi releases patches nonstop. Most the time they are just fixing errors the last patch had and again, making more of a mess. Well, any help would be great.

Did you manually download the file then install or did you use the automatic updater in the options menu?

It happends with both using the auto downloader and manually downloading and installing the patch.

I am almost positive I know the answer. It has the same errors on my brother's computer aswell. If you have Windows 2000 and you do not have administrator rights it will give you the error. The only way around it I could find was to either install the patch logged in as an Admin or by reinstalling the game and patching from v1.0

Can't you just run the "Run As" if you don't want to switch to Admin account?

Or alternatively set persmissions on folders used by game to full on accounts your playing on?
