Today's question (brought to you in a timely fashion this time ):

(Skip): Will the players be able to make their own way to and from the patrol areas in the dynamic campaign? Or will the player be warped to the patrol area?
(Dev Team): During the dynamic campaign the player will have the liberty to leave from port and freely navigate to assigned patrol area or may choose the "warp system".

    Have a nice week-end!

"Oh just give me a U-boat and a star to sail her by "

Playing SH3 in real-time albeit saving the game after every 3 hours of play will be the pinnacle of SubSim PC games for me. And what an enjoyable PC experience it will be too.

Oh yes indeed to leave Kiel at 15:00 hrs realtime and arrive in the North Altantic for 15:05 will NOT be on my agenda.

I will have to look out for aircraft and manage the crew over the voyage..it will be like megga but realtime play is what I intent to do for that added realism.

Its just a case of saving then resuming play later, cool, simple, easy to do plus that extra feeling of being there will be magnified.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH DEVTEAM FOR GIVING US THIS OPPORTUNITY TO IMMERSE OURSELVES IN THE SIM IN THIS WAY.
    YOU GUYS ARE MEGGA.

Cool, I was hoping they'd do it that way.

RedTerex, and others that plan on playing in real time, I have a question.

Do you guys just sit there and stare at the ocean for 3 hours, even if nothing happens? Or do you just let the game run, and then if you hear your crew yelling about contacts or something then you run back to your computer? I could see playing in real time, but I wouldn't want to sit there staring at nothing for hours upon hours. Maybe there should be an option that automatically pauses it as soon as anything important happens, so that if you wandered off while sailing around, and ran into some ships or a plane or something, you could come back, find it paused, and then play the engagement.

    ps.
Realtime is the only way I intend to play SH3.

And THAT is a credit to you devteam guys.

In answer to your question Dr Jonez.
YES I will look at the screen for 3 hours or rather the well modelled sea.
    Just as they did!

The patrol will take 2 weeks maybe more maybe less all in realtime.
Probably even take a month in MY time due to saves of the game whilst I go about my life<<yes I have one
Will I get bored at stages?..yes, probably, but so what, didnt the real u-boat crew get bored at times. Hell I'm even going to experience that feeling too LOL.

Will I leave the screen to make a cuppa, Yes I will, but I'll put the Sim on hold whilst I do.

Insant action...no..not me. affraid not ! I will sail as in real life at real ticks of the clock.

I anticipate that it will offer a great realism to the game.

All you guys who talk about realism then leave port 'warp' to combat arena sink a few ships then 'warp' back WILL be missing out on a simulation of simulated times.
    ie:
Boredom, desperation, sudden attack from the skies adrenaline rush , hours of chugging diesel engines, looking at that damn control room and those ugly crewmen for days-weeks-months pheww , the thrill of spotting a ship by chance(as they did..not programmed to do so) or convoy and then getting into position to track and follow for the kill after days of seeing nothing, to get detected by DD's and NOT being able to quit the game and start again if all goes wrong but to bear it out , KNOWING that If I lose the sub then days or weeks of play are lost<<<THAT is reaslistic to me.

When I stipulated full immersion into this Sim thats what I meant.

Leave Kiel (or Brest etc) in realtime, navigate, sail, manage, attack, survive, escape, head home.

Dynamic Campaign..guys youve got it, Devs programmed it (still in proccess I'll grant you) use it to its FULLEST advantage, whats the point in ALL the sea being modelled if you are not going to use it or see it.

I wont know what it looks like to sink a ship until maybe 5 days of playing the Sim when I get it. That is the type of gameplay that I owe the devs for adding the DC that I/we wanted so much.

Realistic play at realistic times from a very very realistic DevTeam.

    Gentlemen I thank you.

We all do this when we turn the telly-vision on ...only kidding...but it's still an interesting point..lol..it's what makes games like this and long winded real time world sims so addictive....some folks sit there and read a book whilst they are playing...or listen to music....as we know the sound of the sea makes a great relaxation tape so it can be soothing after a stressfull day etc..all sorts of uses (not listed on the box or in the manual) become apparent after a while..and i like the way this allows you to build your own unique "relationship" with the game...(something i keep reading that game devs are anxious to build into their games...all they need do is give the player a world place the game within that world and let him/her find his/her own way through it..on occasion)

sounds daft but / it's a bit like reading a favourite book and discovering that the plot has changed since last you picked it up..fascinating and keeps you exploring and discovering..and of course if it gets a bit too dull there's allways the time excell or warp option ..so it never gets to be compulsory....(which would kill it entirely...it's all about choice..even if you dont need it it's nice to know it's there..depth really is what it provides)

now if they can build a web browser into the game and allow you to send emails and or browse the web from the captain's cabin he he!! that would allow the player to use a game as his desktop wallpaper...now were talking..

how many times have you thought that it's nice to have a picture of a seascape as your desktop wallpaper but it would be great if it was animated and had sound.....and was playable..

We already knew the answer to this question. At least that goes for me. Anyways, it's nice to know that the Devs answer our questions.

As a question to you die-hards, would sleeping whilst playing in real time be acceptable? Obviously you'd have to go to sleep with the sound turned up high and become a bit of a 'nervous wreck', liable to wake up at the slightest sound, but this too would seem to add to the experience.

Hmmmm imagine the excuses to your boss the next day, sorry i'm late but i was depth charged all night!
