Separating the external views from the padlock (F5)would be excellent. It would be cool to look your plane or others plane but not be able to find your enemy that is sneking behind you.
So in other words add an options for External Views, and another options for External Padlock. That way if some people want to find there enemy 5 miles away they woulod jsut need to select that option.
Thank You Matt for looking!

Let "No Padlock" apply to external as well, I agree.

I don't see the point.
You want to eliminate the ability to use the F5 Air Combat View (It is not called "External Padlock" view) but you want to retain the ability for users to use all the other external views? If this is a realism question then none of the external views is realistic. The option to disable all the external views currently exists in Lock On.
The only difference between F2 and F5 views is that the user doesn't have to move the camera. Using F2 the user can still see any aircraft that is "sneaking up" on your aircraft.
Sorry, this is not going to be something we are going to change at this time. It just doesn't seem to be an option that is needed.
It most definitely will not be considered for V1.02.

Currently you can select no padlock and no external views. That does the trick just fine.

Hmmm, not sure I agree Stormin.
(apart from the bit where you guys decide what to put in or not)
Realism is not necessarily the issue, but setting up a server
where you minimize the ability to "game the game".
Now, like in IL-2:FB, you can use the Combat view as a radar,
picking up planes that are just out of vis-range and that would've
sneaked up on you if you hadn't hit F5.
Servers that host with max realism in mind disables external views all together anyway.

IL2 has the same option. Externals on or off. There is no in between.
If your going to turn off Fight view then you have to turn off normal cycle external view as well to keep things fair.
External views off is a very good equalizer.

I like external views, how else can I got some great screen shots? I think it would be a great thing to add it as a server option.
