Thread: computer upgrading | Forums

hey everyone, most of you know me here, so ill just get to the point: im looking to upgrade, but im not sure what to do. ive got a p4 2.0 ghz and i can upgrade to a new p4 clocking in around 3.0 ghz, or i can go amd and get an athalon 64 3000+ or 3200+. since i will be leaving home most likely before 64 bit software goes nationwide and im gonna get a laptop for college, is the performance of the 3000+ or 3200+ that much better than a p4 3.0 ghz that it warrants spending more money to go with amd?

and for that matter, what is the diff between a p4 3.0E processor and a p4 3.0C?

im wondering cause im in the process of looking for a new p4 3.0 ghz (i think thats what ill upgrade my p4 2.0 ghz to) and they have an E and C versions on newegg and im stumped.

I have a 64 3000+ and I upgraded from an Intel 2.2 ghz P4 and I saw some very noticeable improvements even though the 3000+ is clocked at 2.0 ghz!

Pluss the motherboard I have absolutely rocks, the Gigabyte k8-NPro. It has ever single feature you can throw on a motherboard. Two BIOS chips so it's basicly impossible for a virus to infect the bios. Built in Raid, gigabit ethernet, etc etc.

The e class pentium is probably the extreme. Very large and fast on chip cache for gamers. AMD's counter is the FX line.

Pluss I'm ready for 64 bit FarCry, and for SLI NFORCE 4 motherboards.

The less a man makes declarative statemenets, the less apt he is to look foolish in retrospect.

if i was to go with the 3000+ or the 3200+, what mobo would you recommend getting? mind you, i need one that is for smaller towers (not quite sure the size, but i know mine can only have 3 pci slots and an agp slot). any help is definitely welcome and thanx red so far

your best bet is to look for a micro atx mobo. Nine times out of ten the only have 1 agp and 3 pci. Just wandering is this what you may need not the board its kind of cheap plus it australian but is kind of the layout you want
