I know that in the Eder Ages, you need to use the glowing bugs that follow you to light the dark path behind the waterfall. I am told that you get 1 jump, and that they don't like water or running. My problem is that they leave me after the first jump - I don't even get the free one, and without that you can't beat the Age. Anyone know what's wrong? Why won't those damned bugs stick to me?

Are you jumping across that first channel or did you make a bridge across it using a crab pot? I assume the latter....
You need to hug the right wall of that last jump into the cave as much as possible and do a standing jump. It also helps to pick up two swarms of fireflies in the garden.
He jumps right when he gets the bugs and they fly away.

Like Steve said, I jump right after I get the bugs, and they still fly away. A standing jump won't get you anywhere but back where you started, so it has to be a moving jump. Yes, I am using the table (crab thing?) to get across the little channel. But no matter where I am, the bugs just leave when I jump, unless it's a standing still jump.

You get one jump and only one jump...sounds like you think you get one jump and then a "free" jump. Now...when we say "jump", we are talking about a "physical" jump, NOT "jumping" from the Garden to the waterfall area. I hope this isn't just a semantics problem we are dealing with here...
If you are picking up fireflies in the garden, then walking (NOT running) to the cave with the linking book, linking to the Falls area, then walking over to the first channel of water....and your fireflies are leaving you before you even have a chance to cross that first channel, then maybe what's happening is this: as soon as you link back to the falls area, freeze. Look down....you will see right in front of you an active steam vent. Hmmmmm...those blasted fireflies may not like that. Walk around it.
But if you are running/jumping in the garden area right after you pick up the fireflies, then you will lose them right there and then.
There....clear as mud, eh? Maybe if you post back with exactly what your moves have been after picking up the swarm(s), we could have a clearer picture.
Make sure you are going through the fireflies multiple times. You need to get *two* sets of fireflies around you. It's not that you get a free jump - it's that the first jump makes the first set go away, and the 2nd jump makes the second set go away.

I think you might be successful if you insure you pick up TWO swarms as ronsolo mentions. Give it a try and see. The two swarm trick worked for me when I was there (what I call The Waterfalls of Despair...).
how do you know if you are actually getting two batches of fireflies. When I go from the Eder Kemo to Eder Gira, I don't have the fireflies around me. Are they supposed to be around you or what. i put the lanterns on but that doesn't help at all.
