Thread: FarCry does not recognize system config (i think) | Forums

  1. #1
When I do autodetect, it sets it on low. Unless FarCry is some next generation game that is meant to run on something only nasa would have, I'm pretty sure my computer would be better than default low settings.

    Here is my system.
    p4 2.6ghz w/ HT
    512 mb pc3200 RAM
    Geforce 6800 GT

I know I made a post about this earlier, but no one seemed to help. I didn't mention the fact that it didn't recognize it in the auto detect, though. Maybe that means something?

BTW, when I try and play it, I never get more than 40 frames on ANY settings, and around 2 - 10 on highest. I already updated all my drivers I could think of, unless my floppy disk needs a driver update. I installed the new windows version (service pack 2 for xp), and I installed every instance of the farcry patches, hoping maybe one would work.

Also, this might mean something - the menu lags, when I played it on my ti4200, it ran at 150 frames per second on the -menu-. It runs at about 30 on the menu. Also, the starting cinematic lags - about 20 frames, where it went at about 300 on my ti4200. I just recently got my video card, and it runs great for everything else. My benchmark scores are up to par, I'm sure. If anyone knows what's wrong, please help.

Don't know if it was you, but someone elese posted something similar.

The respone someone gave that was quite sensical was that since the 6800 is a NEW card FC does not recognize it. So, presumably, Crytek, erring on the safe side mostly coded the game to set the config to *Low* when the GPU is not known. Get it?

    Just change the settings manually.

To the rest of your issues, as long as you have less than 1 gig of ram, you're going to get some stuttering at points, and less than maximum fps.

That being said, what you describe, appears to be an additionally issue.

Well, heat *may* be an issue, that GT runs a lot hotter than you're old card. In any event, what are your temps? Your temps while actually *in-game*?

First, have you upgraded to the *latest* driver for your soundcard? **Have you updated your motherboard's BIOS, and Chipset drivers?**

How much free space is on the Hard Drive? What size is your Swap File/Virtual Memory? Have you defragged lately? To be sure, what are your benchmark scores?

I'm not an expert on Nvidia, but maybe you need to try a different driver. Apparently, one can never know which driver will work best, when using an Nvidia card.

BTW, if you were getting 150/300 fps with a ti4200, then you *must* have had EVERYTHING turned off with a resolution of 800x600x16.

Also, I imagine that, now, even at low, your settings are a bit higher; as well as your resolution. Correct?

Check the Benchmarking threads, I believe there are two of them. I'm sure there's someone with a similar setup, see what their scores are.

    Luck!

I was hinting that the menu and movie frames were low. And, it lagged at low settings. No more than 40 frames on lowest. I always run lowest first, just so I can see how much better the new hardware is. I was severely dissapointed when it ran SLOWER on lowest than my old card. I have this fetish with how fast it runs on lowest settings, and this just pissed me off. Also, why would the menu or the movies lag?

It's almost as if, something was wrong. Also, I already updated everything I could think of, didn't I say that?

Did you just swap the new card out or did you uninstall the old adapter and clean the system and then install the new card. With your system you should be running much better, it really sounds like you could have some old residual drivers or registry entries in there. Also make sure that AA and AF are off or as low as possible in the control panel, just in case they are enabled by default for some reason.

What is it like in other games or benchmarks? If it is just in FC that you have a problem then I don't know what to suggest, I doubt that it is an install problem. If it is running poorly in other games it is definitely a driver issue.

The only problem is with farcry, and settings do not matter. It runs poorly no matter what. Every game other game runs like my nose in the winter. Even that demo for rome: total war didnt lag. My 3dmark03 score was 10491, and UT2k4 lags not, likewise does doom 3. Ut2k4 runs better than bf1942, though.

Also, I said I got in the menu 150 fps. Doesn't anyone realize that it's weird that it lags in a prerendered loop? The card doesn't have to render the menu when you're on it; nor does it the game loop. The opening logo lags too. EVERYTHING IN THE GAME LAGS. It's as if something is slowing my entire system down. You know there's a video at the start of singleplayer; it's prerendered, like a diablo 2 cinematic. It shouldn't run at 20 frames, it should go at 300. It went at 300 on my ti4200; hell it would go at 300 with an integrated video card. Something is wrong, but no one seems to know what.
