Game crashes to desktop | Forums

[XyZspineZyX]

I had a 64mb geforce 2 and after loading in game and 1.3 and 1.4 and thunder and siege, the game kept crashing to desktop. I upgraded to a 128ddr geforce4 and still the same thing. Here is my dxdiag
Can anyone help or have any idea's. thanks in advance

I had a 64mb geforce 2 and after loading in game and 1.3 and 1.4 and thunder and siege, the game kept crashing to desktop. I upgraded to a 128ddr geforce4 and still the same thing. Here is my dxdiag

If your motherboard came with onboard sound and/or graphics, disable those in the BIOS (probably a submenue under "integrated peripherals).

If that doesn't help, roll back to the 40.72 WHQL drivers. You'' find those at http://www.nvidia.com >download drivers > driver archive.

If it still doesn't work, upgrade your soundcard drivers from http://www.creative.com

Suggest you do things in this order.

Thanks for your reply. I had the sound disabled already. I also had the 40.72 drivers and had no luck so that is why I upgraded to the new ones. I just went to creative and I have the newest on them also. I just went up and installed on another computer and the only difference is xp and 8.1 direct x in stead of 9.0b. So I will give that a shot.

You dxdiag shows some "inactive entries" which means thatthere are leftovers of old drivers. These must be removed. Furthermore, as you can see from the dxdiag, your RAM memory shows 1012 instead of 1024 and there's probably a connection between this and the old driver stuff.

I am not sure I understand this. How do I removed them? In registry?
I guess this game isn't meant to be.

One driver is a soundcard driver from creative, the other one is a modem wave sound driver.

Check in control panel > add/remove programs if there's any software you can remove that way. If unsuccessful, check the registry HK Local Machine>Software for any entries of this "Best Data" and also "Creative". As to "Creative" be aware it's the PCI card's entry you have to remove. Worst case you have to re-install the drivers for your present card.

If still no success, do a search of those 2 driver files. They are probably in the windows/system folder, possibly the "inf" folder.
When you've found them, cut (not "copy") and paste them to a temp folder so they are removed from the system and thus inactivated.

Leave them in that temp folder and if there's no problem after you have used the PC for some days, you can delete those files in the temp folder.

I would suggest the following:

Download the 40.72 WHQL certified driver. Do not install it yet.

Remove the Nvidia software via Control panel.

Defrag your system.

Reboot PC and when Windows finds new hardware (graphics card), choose the second option for the driver choice: don't let Windows search for it, find one yourself. In the next box click "Show all compatible hardware" and choose the standard VGA driver.

Reboot PC and install the Nvidia WHQL driver.

Go to "Device Manager >display adapter > properties" and click "update driver". Browse to the folder where you installed the driver.

Reboot PC. If you still got problems, re-run the dxdiag and post it here.
