I had the demo running fine on an old GF2 Ti with most settings on medium. It was a little slow at some points but it looked ok.
I just upgraded to an ATI 9500 Pro. I choose "Auto Detect" and it set most things to medium and water quality to "High". I decided to start there. I launched the demo and it started to load. When the status bar was almost done the video suddenly went off, then my screen came back solid gray, then my PC rebooted.
I was able to get into the game with all video settings on "Low", but this doesn't seem reasonable, especially since my old video card ran at "medium". If the video settings were too high I would expect the game to run slow but not completely crash my system.
Here are my specs:
ATI 9500 Pro 128MB
Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton core)
512 MB DDR333
VIA KT400 chipset
Anyone have any suggestions for reasonable video settings with this hardware?
Thanks

one answer....cats 3.9 driver
-
yes, install cat 4.2 from ati's website (I have a 9500 pro o/c over 9700 pro speeds and all sets on high all going smooth)

then you have luck , i even can't play it (far cry sp demo) with the catalyst 4.1 or 4.2 drivers. in other games/demos I haven't got any problems. why are there so many problems with cards from ati ? why not by nvidea based cards. but i find that the ati radeon cards are great.

To solve this problem just make sure you havent got FSAA or Anisotropic filtering enabled in the drivers under direct3d (set them to application preference) and make sure you have Antialiasing set to none in the game options.
The game did exactly the same for me too. This sorted the problem. Runs great now

Thank Sk1rrow, that worked for me! Although I would like to see the game with antialaising on.
-
@Sk1rrow : thanks anyway but by my it stays on default in other word only when a program ask then fsaa or Anisotropic will be used.
(the problem is that i can't transelate to english what i would like to say) hopefully it is a little bit understandable.
