I bought Raven Shield the day it was released from CompUSA. About 3/4th thru the campaign, I decided to install the 1.3 version patch - what a horrible mistake!
AFTER installing the patch, I received the message "please insert the correct cd" when I attempted to run the game. (Yes, I'm using the 2nd cd).
Frustrated but not undaunted, I completely uninstalled the game and deleted ALL registry entries to Raven Shield. Now, when I attempt to install the game, I receive the error messages "cyclic redunancy check" or "incorrect function" when attempting to install the stream files from the 2nd cd.
Since I have Windows XP, I tried using system restore to undo whatever problem patch 1.3 created - no luck. So, WTF did patch 1.3 do to my computer?
I cannot install the game at all anymore! Anyone else having this problem?

are you installing on a CDRW? The box mentions that it isn't recommended b/c not all CDRWs can read the disk. 1.3 updates the safedisc copy protection to a newer version. I'm not sure if it is a center driver on your system, but I think safedisc is like that. You need to use a different optical driver to install the game.

Sorry UBI, my CDR drive is MY ONLY DRIVE. MY BAD!
I'll just run out to Best Buy and get a new one, right now!
[edit]
And no patch until late August? So I just bought a $55 paper weight... fantastic.

I'm confused, How the hell do you make a cd that won't work in a damn cdrw drive? Maybe it some kinda [edit] method to make it hard to copy? What next it wont read in DVD's?

it is the copy protection. Safedisc. It isn't designed not be read, just that CDRW have a hard time with the bogas tracks, etc in the disk. It works on most CDRWs, just a fewer older models have trouble with the disk.

Yes over active disc protection has gotten way out of hand. If game companies wouldn't buy 3rd party protection schemes that don't work on all drives---then protection schemes that would work and not interfere with a customer that actually bought the product would be developed.
As far as their warning on the box--that just doesn't cut it unless it lists all the drives that can or can't read the CD. Why does it have to be on the box and not the readme?--because most, if not all stores, will refuse to give back your money for opened software--they will exchange it for the same game only. So if you go home and it doesn't work you are fried or buying another drive.
Then to have the go through UBI when online as second protection--well there aren't any problems with that--right? (ROTFLMASO).
Sure wish UBI was as concerned with development as they are with protection. Then we wouldn't be needing all these patches.

discussion of no cd cracks aren't allowed on the boards. Don't do it again.

DayGlow, the problem is definitly with the safedisk protection (as you mentioned), that was coded in the patch.
However, my toshiba is a cd/dvd reader - not a cdrw. I originally installed & played the game from this drive! Now when I attempt to reinstall the game, I receive the message "cyclic redundancy check" on the 2nd cd.
I read an earlier post about disabling virtual drives - so I tried that also. After running patch 1.3, I cannot install the game from my cd/dvd drive, a cdrw drive, or a virtual drive. I cannot reinstall the game at all!
This is insane - I bought and PAID for the game from CompUSA, but I cannot reinstall the game from the original disks after appling the patch.
The irony, like Buck indicated, a person can get cracked versions from warezs sites for free. So, registered owners that paid for the game are screwed after installing the 1.3 patch.
Basically, people that paid for the game are punished, while those with the cracked versions are laughing their asses off.
What in the heck did patch 1.3 do to my computer?
