Hi,
I have Windows XP installed and FB 1.11 and a digital joystick with USB (A cheap Saitek). I thought I'd set up a second joystick for a smooth rudder control. Bought a 16 Euro analog w. USB (Predator) and connected it. It works, but FB assigns it ID2. No matter how I disconnect them both and reboots, the Saitek always ends up as default, and the predator as ID2.
Now to the problem: I want to use the ID2 joystick as main flight control, but it needs alot of calibration. However, the hardware inputs only applies to the default joystick (the Saitek). I.e. joystick intended for main fligth control (assigned ID2) can't be fine tuned for aileron/elevator control. I'm thinking of buying a new joystick today for main fligth control just to overcome this problem.
Questions: How do I make my new joystick the default one? If that can't be done, is there anyway you can calibrate it, eventhough it is reckognized as ID2 hardware?

Hi, you could check that your controller is ID assigned to 1 in Gaming options/controller. I'm not saying this will help as i'm having a similar problem...
I have Saitek X45, however IL2 assigns the buttons etc as ID2. I use the profiling software from saitek for all my 'keypresses' so its not a problem there. However i can't setup any deadzone/filtering as i get no movement/feedback from the hardware input screen - yaw, pitch, roll.
Maybe its a USB hub problem - shooting in the dark here... I'll change my controllers/mouse to different USB ports and let you know if i get any joy - not hopefull!
Any help would be grately appreciated.

try this, unplug both sticks, plug in the one that you want as default, run game and set up in game, then plug in second stick. might work. I think it assigns the first stick you plug in as the default.

Hi,
I tried this, and the cheap joystick became the default. As soon as I plugged in the second one (the Saitek) it "took over".
Anyway, Yesterday I bought a Saitek Cyborg with a twist rudder handle. Man, did that make a difference! For the first time I can really fly a plane. I used to rely on buttons for rudder control.
I appreciate your effort of helping me out, though.

i use 2 joysticks, i used then with win me and the only issue was that they sometimes switched id's, but the were identical joysticks (mspp's) Now I have XP and so far no problems ( although i have not usaed them much yet.) . I dont think it matters which id # they're under (as long as it doesn't switch after you map the controls you want). You can map any control to either stick, so if your "good" joystick is id # 2, just map the flight controls to it.

If you use windows XP there isnâ´t anything you can do about that. I got a Saitek Cyborg Force stick and a MOMO Force. (I want it pedals for rudders) but the logitech software is made such it always has to be identified as ID 1. So I get force feedback on my MOBO and none of my Saitek Cyborg Force stick! It doesnâ´t matter how I install or setup it up.
If you are using win 98 se it should work changing the ID- ettings. Sadly win xp doesnâ´t support this. You can assing one as "favourite" but it doesnâ´t help.

You can manually assign the axes in the game to your controller, go to controls> HOTAS setup and click to the right of Aileron (roll), move your stick to the right and FB should pick it up. (if anything is backward in-game then just go back and move the axis the other way) Repeat for elevator, throttle and rudder. If you do it this way you'll still not be able to adjust sensitivity in-game, but not to worry there is a workaround for that too. Go to your main FB directory and open the file 'conf.ini' w/ notepad. You will see a section that looks like this:

On the lines w/ 12 numbers the first number is dead band and the last number is filtering. The numbers in the middle are the sensitivity settings similar to the in-game setup. If you don't know which axis is which then go to your main FB directory and open the 'Users' folder and inside open 'default.ini' again w/ notepad. You will see a section like this:

JoystickDevice0 AXE_U = -power
JoystickDevice0 AXE_X = aileron
JoystickDevice0 AXE_Y = elevator
JoystickDevice0 AXE_RZ = rudder
This should clear up any mystery regarding which axis is which. Notice that in my conf.ini entry I've got two axes that are not listed in the default.ini. These are rotary switches on my joystick and if you've got anything like that on yours it will be trial and error to figure out which is which.
