Thread: A humble request for a second cockpit position. | Forums

After the bugs have been ironed out and the indicated F/A 18C has been added among other features I would like to see in this sim the ability to fly in multiplayer from a non pilot position.

Here are some reasones I would like to see this.

In Il2 the only way I got many of my friends too play a few rounds of Il'2 here and there was by putting them in the gunner spot and making it interesting by pulling up steeply after strafing and stuff(one of them got a bf109 and 3 trucks in one mission). In lo-mac they could be persuaded to use the io(not refering to the f14 spcifically) type position as long as they didn't have to fly.

I would realy like too use the non pilot position myself, to just concentrate on shooting and finding.

Aircraft that would, I realise have to be added to realise this feature.

    A few suggestions.

F4 - simple non flybywire flight controll system seems to me to be not as dificult to model. Simple electronics and radar systems make this a painless choice I feel for the catagory.

Mig 25 - Also no flybywire and simple operation and I like it more even because of the metric instruments.

Mig 29 UB - mostly just a trainer but the flight model is most of the way there and operation is simple besides in my opinion the UB is the best looking fighter there is and because of EOS and datalink with R27T/R27ET's it might stand a chance sometimes. I know I might sound crazy but I would fly the back seat on this one anytime and I think a lower end computer could run the game provided you focus on controlls only.

Mig 31 - I realize it is more complex to fly and some of its systems may be classified so this is not my first choice.

I know there are a lot of people out there asking about the Tornado and the F14 B/D but these aircraft I believe would be the most difficult by far to model because thier moving wings make them like completely different aicraft in different modes of flight additionally they have very complex electronics so I feel that asking for these is unrealistic. I could be wrong about that though, if I am I would love a flyable mig 23mld but that is dreaming.

Also adding the F14 and Tornado would unfortunatly keep this game dominated by super big aircraft.

A few questions can a second cockpit be done with this game?

Just haow classified are the non M versions of the Mig 31 as they were offered for export I think they might be possible but I don't know.

We've been told it's technically possible with Lock On (how wouldn't it, after all the devs have the source code ), but not very probable.

Looking at the avionics detail level of the current planes, I doubt there'd be much to do for any RIO in a two-seater. Not really the information overflow and workload of a real plane. I also doubt it would be much fun for people that don't play sims normally, unlike in Il2 where the gunners are pure arcade action.

The multiplayer component required for this feature would also need to work more precisely than the current one. So I wouldn't count on this.

I realise it wouldn't be like Il2 but there would be some things you could do like...

    Choose weopons.

Look at the gorgeus lo-mac scenery.

    Use the RADAR/EOS(of course).

Mouth off to the pilot(like when I crashed strafing those trucks)....

Yea I see your point but I get a real kick out of just flying around the gulf of finland untill I run out of gas so maybe I have a more subtle sence of fun.

Still I realy would like this feature and more presision in multiplayer doesn't sound like it would be too bad.

My aim is not to request all the above mentioned aircraft to be flyable. The feature is what I am after one aircraft with the feature would be enough. How hard could it be to make a flyable Mig 29 UB for instance and as far as I am concerned it would be more interesting than gunner in Il2.

I found some more pictures of the Mig 31 cockpit and the more I think of it the more I want to fly the back seat of this one especially.

Here is a picture of the pilot position.

    And his starboard panel.
    http://www.aeronautics.ru/mikoyan/mi...oard-panel.jpg

And finally my seat the IO/Navigator position.
    http://www.aeronautics.ru/mikoyan/mi...ator-panel.jpg

As you can see this setup has all we have come to expect from Mig. It also provides AWAC controll to other aircraft as well as controlling some of the most powerfull fighter based RADAR in existence the Zazlon flash dance fazed aray pulse doppler. The Mig 31 also features 360 degree sweep radar in a radome underneath the cockpit.

I like flying the Mig 29/Su 27/33 but I would like to be the navigator on a fox hound even more it would be like being an AWAC oporator, an IO on an F14 and a navigator all in one.
Also it is a pretty fast plane too eh?
