Hello,
I don`t know if I am expecting too much of my computer, but I have a question regarding the perfomance of Far Cry Demo 2 on my machine.
I have an AMD 64 3000+, Radeon 9800 Pro 128 (Cat 4.2) and 1GB Ram, and at 1600x1200 with everything turned to high (AA and AF are disabled in the drivers) I "only" get between 15-25 fps with the average beeing around 23. Is this what I should expect, or is it too low? On medium I get between 30-40 fps, but I have a thing about running my games on High or Very High
I have also heard of people with not so high specs. getting the game to run smoother than me with those settings.
Also, does the demo utilize the AMD 64 to its full potensial?
Thanks in advance for any answers.

I'm really not in a position to tell you what fps you should be getting. Although as this is a completely new engine, and these are only demo's etc. I'd say you will get more fps in the full game.
Also your system specs are very nice
But in 1600x1200 that does indeed take up alot of bandwidth.
But i really do beleive that the full game will fix most of ppls problems.

Thank you very much for your answer. I am starting to suspect that my video card is the sinner, since it "only" has 128 ram. But if that turns out to be that cause, it is a bit weird that it is the recomneded reqs. for the game. (Sorry for the english, early in the morning

Video ram is not an issue really, 128 is plenty, and if more is needed, the 8x AGP interface of current systems and dual-channel ram make up for anything IF it went beyond.
The fact you have an Athlon 64 probably won't make games faster than if you were using a "regular" Athlon XP with the same clockspeed. Athlon64 chipsets (mobo) aren't quite fully developed yet, because the technology is so new. So probably your motherboard is a limiting factor to getting everything out of the processor.
Second, games are not 64bit applications, and probably won't be for a long time. So clockspeed, not the fact it is 64bit enabled, will actually determine how your game runs.
And your videocard is pretty much top of the line. It will not be obsolete for years to come, because right now it is way over what anything requires.

In other words, I should continue searching for the performance-killer?

How do you display the FPS? Is there a console command? Or do you have to use FRAPS? I only ask I have praticly the same setup as you and I will see what I get

Type in the console:
\R_displayinfo 1
I think the guy who started this post should be getting more FPS than he is now. Here is what i get for my system:
Althon 2600XP O/C to 2.2ghz, 333mhz 512mb ddr (o/c to 388mhz), Radeon 9800 (non pro).
I get 41FPS @ the start of the Research demo with everything on Very High @ 1024x768. The FPS stays at 20-40fps indoors.
His system is indeed slightly superior to mine, this should mean he should be getting more or similar FPS to me. My concern is what type of RAM he has got, he says he has 1GB of RAM but what is its speed?
If he has 1GB of PC2100 then there is a MASSIVE bottleneck as this is limiting the CPU's Front Side Bus. Do you (riktor) no what type of RAM you have? (PC2100,PC2700,PC3200)
Regards,
Gary

PC3200. I am thinking of trying the Cat 4.3, since I have heard they have given improvements of up to 14% in Far Cry. But I have also heard that they create problems, anyone know?
Also, the resolution I am trying is 1600x1200 with everything set to high. With everything set to medium, my fps is between 30 and 40.

What size is you monitor because 16x12 is really high, especially for this game. Lower the res, up the other settings and I guarantee improvemnt.
