hay guys im thinking of geting a new pc to replace my 1.6 dell and id like some thoghts on if i should do it now or wait till about sep.first let me say i have a small expendable income. i take care of a sick father and only get in about 100$u.s a mounth to save or spend. i have manged to save up 600.0 so as you can imagen thats a good chunk of change for me.the resone i want to up grade is mostly for p.f and later bob. mabie hl2 and doom3.ill have to build a complet pc hard drive case powersupplie ect. the only thing im going to keep is my 9500pro and kboard and monitor. im thinking of a amd3000xp based system. what i want to know is now a good time to do it or should i wait?thanks for any help any one can give.

Under these circumstances...wait. You'll have a few "hunnerd' more clams and the prices on the stuff you're talking about will be CONSIDERABLY lower so it'll go farther.

Waiting is tough, but in this case it'll pay bigger dividends....

If you're intent on getting an AMD 3000+ I would get a Barton 2500+ and overclock. The prices on these CPUs are already low and you can get a very capable, inexpensive motherboard. DDRSDRAM has been going up recently but you can still get an ok buy (3200 or greater speed) for a 400 FSB. I would check out Pricewatch.

I wouldn't be so confident prices for these components will be substantially lower come Sept., but if you continue to save you may be able purchase some of the newest goodies and be more assured to enjoy the next generation games. I say wait but I'm not the one waiting

thanks guys i aprecate the tips i think mabie i will wait.i know its a little early to tell so forgive me if this sounds to stupid but do you think a 3000xp will be able to play games like bob at good fps?if thats unawserable then just ignore loland thanks agine for the help

I doubt an upgrade now would be able to play a 2005 game - sorry I know its bad, but from all that I've read, todays *top end* i.e. 3.4Ghz etc will only be able to play BOB at minimum settings, medium if you are lucky. If the speculation is to be beleived then you are better off to wait. I myself am going to make do with several smaller partial upgrades over the next few months (principally a graphics card cos I currently dont have one , probably more ram and MAYBE a 2.8ghz 533fsb chip for this board - currently on a 1.8 so that is quite a jump) and then look into a new system in 15 - 18 months.

You might want to take a look at CPU's for your current board - try ebay or others what system you got (own build, dell etc?) its the easiest way of getting more out your current system at the moment besides adding more ram. Otherwise keep saving....

I agree completely. Get about $1000 to $1200 and build one yourself. You will get alot more for your money. And dont be scared, it's easy, really. While you wait a few more months to save some more cash, start researching online about how to build your own box. You will find out it is simple and also learn about what you want as far as hardware goes. Go to pricewatch. com for good deals on hardware.

well the most i can up grade my dell is from the 1.6 to a 2.0 wich would cost 100 u.s also im useing the fastest ram for my mobo wich is only 2100. i have a tough time running f.b on med. settings during campagins quick missions and online is ok about 25 to 30fps.do you guys think id see a big diff going from the 1.6 to a 2.0.my cards good a 9500pro just my slow ram and cpu are killn me. i can barley play the far cry demo on lowest settingsim looking forward to pacific fighters more than any thing and think mabie ill wait till its ready before i do any thing.its hard though sometimes i crank up graphics to ex. or high in f.b just to look and its so cool it makes waiting hard lol.if i do get a 2.0 what do you think ill gain in fps i hate to spend 100 just for 5 fps extra thats almost 2 months worth of save for me

Just looked on ebay US for you - P4 2.0 GHz is relatively cheap, currently sitting at $45.

have you got the latest BIOS for your motherboard? this may allow you to go higher CPU wise, however I doubt it...

My brother has a 1.5 Ghz Dell and it too can only go to about 2Ghz I think thats true with all early P4s or at least the non A rated (northwood is it?)ones .

unless you're desperate, wait, if you are, then ebay is the way to go.
