    MUST.... RESIST.... UPGRADE..... FEVER!!!!!

I told myself I wasn't going to upgrade ANYTHING ELSE in my PC until the NEXT graphics cards were available. By NEXT I mean what comes out AFTER the x800's and 6800's. At which point I planned on building a whole new 64bit rig with full PCI Express support and one of the new cards. But if we see 6800GTs for 300USD, that'll be tough to pass up. I feel my current PC is very well balanced, and if I choose to upgrade the video card, I will be inclined to upgrade the processor to take full advantage, which means new motherboard as well, its a never ending story. I MUST reisist the temptation. This will be a good test of will power!

god i want to get rid of my 9800pro.... Well from what I saw, the NV40 beats ATI everywhere ion default settings but the ATI cards catch up when AAx4 and AFx8 are turned on... So what would be better? Anyways I'm waiting for the R500 chip comin out at the end of the year...

Interesting. The newer drivers seemed to have given this card a decent boost.

Also interesting about the temps. The high temps were one thing that was turning me off about the X800Pro cards.

Jabroni, the way I see it, your computer is fine as it is, and certainly will be until the next generation cards are out. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to play Doom 3 and HL2 on high settings even, although it's only a speculation. Anyways, other than for benchmark bragging, I see no point in upgrading anything in your computer unless you're desperate to get rid of your money... Trust me, you'll have the fever again when the NEXT generation comes out again. It depends on whether the upgrade is meaningful or not.

The truth is that those who will buy the new nvidia cards will likely buy the gt and few will buy the ultra. The Gt to me is better because of 1 less molex plug also it does'nt take up a pci slot, also it only requires 350 watts power. Not to mention its $100.00 less. The ultra may perform a little better but it doesn't perform $100.00 better. Why buy a nissan maxima, when the altima performs just as well with less heft.

Manson have you pre orderd yet?

well from what I heard, the ATI X800XT has one connector (of that i'm sure) and it costs as much as the GT.... So...?

erm no - the X800XT is over $100 more than the GT - its ATI's highest end card and priced to match the 6800Ultra - not the GT, the GT competes with the X800 Pro on price - and beats it hands down :-)
