Think this is maybe just a pet name for them Damian. The actual word serf means:
A member of the lowest feudal class, attached to the land owned by a lord and required to perform labor in return for certain legal or customary rights.
An agricultural laborer under various similar systems, especially in 18th- and 19th-century Russia and eastern Europe.

funny, in my s1 there wasnt a sign of the word "serf"
it was just plain old "the settlers"
peraps its the nanny state that affixed the word to the game to broaden its meaning hmmmmmm
-
The sers are the basics of s5.
With them you can cut small amounts of both wood and stone...They can also build. and so if you have stone, wood and a serf you can get started.

Settlers1 was originally called Serf City dan
-
as it is the title of the first settler music..ever
and thanx for the info penns , but i new that.
we call then "pessants". (of course we are no posh) hehe
-
OMG Damian lol
I am NOT posh, wouldnt know how to be
-
my point is, on my amiga game of settlers, there was no sign of serf city, and the theme music was knonwn as "the settlers theme tune"
it must have become serf city later on (maybe when they released the pc version) to establish a foothold in a market where it is common to have a subheading....
veni, vidi, vici

Nor on my Amiga game either dan
