Thread: Hm! Different water heights possible? | Forums

  1. #1
Is it possible to lower the water level without lowering the water level itself... I mean The water level is set where i want it but at a certain place i would like it t be lower.

Either by making holes in it just like the ground? making it invisible with some area effect? anything?

I'm trying to make a very steep gut through the ground and well i cant change the water height, so I'm in a bit of a situation

    Any ideas would be coolio!

    Thx

Sounds like he wants a small portion of a map to have a lower water level than the rest of the map.

In that case... err... I don't know. But the change the water level itself (which I know you don't want) there is a button if you go into the terrain editor.

oh, sorry am in a rush today didn't read that right.

you can only have one ocean but there's water volume or something like that object you can use to make areas of water (you'll want to save and copy the shader it uses to a new name, then edit it to look how you want, then use that one probably or the appearance may not be very good) I'd check the faq on this it should be covered

i don't think you can sculpt the actual water, dunno alot about the water, but one thing you can do is create a water area. are you wanting to maek something like a whirlpool on your level?

hmmm so dude are you aying that it is actually possible to make the watervolume to look like the real ocean, because belive me i've tried...

how do i assign the ocean shader to the watervolume?

    thanks!

    Polyguns:
No, The thing is I have a big desert with some oases and a huuuge beach and i want to make a huge cut in the desert with water at the very bottom...we're talking a long way down... so it would make things 100 times easier if i didnt have to make a water volume for the entire beack(it takes up the entire side of the map.

there's a shader option in the params in the rollout bar for the water volume object... um, you should be able to get it to look like the ocean but I don't know if there's already a shader like that, you'd have to tweak one - and then you might need a fog volume area for the bottom

edit: templLake is pretty close actually, you could just up the bump

Yes you can make a water volume look like the ocean.. make a water volume choose the shader you used for the ocean. If you didnt edit offsets in the params for ocean it will be a perfect surface match. IF you edited params in the enviroment under ocean you will have to edit the shader accordingly and save it as your own in your own pak file.

The you'll need to get the fog to match which if done by using a fog layer with modified shaders.
