Thread: Opinions are like a........... | Forums

I'd like to see adult discussions in here about the flicks that are being made. We can all agree to disagree but as is evidenced in a thread that I started a 'youngster' decided to change the direction of the topic and get personal. It's too bad that it had to happen but some people have an agenda. If you can't discuss a topic as an adult then please don't post at all. It's bad enough in the general forums the immaturity level is lower than most of us want to put up with. The sad part is this thread is for discussions for those of us who are making films and this kid decided to tell me to stick to talking about codecs. Sad indeed.

When reading a post please read exactly what the words say, not what you think they mean. Don't try to superimpose your personal feelings into the words that someone has typed on this page. Having discussed the debate between FRAPS and the in game AVI tool a youngster decided to "read" into my posts what he felt I was trying to say. As I have had pieces of my writing published I feel that I am/was pretty clear in what I was trying to convey. Don't put words into my mouth or try to tell me (or anyone else) what I was trying to say. You don't know me and have absolutely no idea who or what I am. I try to do the same but sometimes I fail, I'm human after all!

While I have some movies that I like more than others, I WILL NOT **** the individual that put that flick together. I know first hand how hard it is to do so. I can take something from every movie posted on these forums and find something that I like very much. I'd recommend that if you have nothing good to say about someone's creation, don't say anything at all. Better to be quiet and thought a fool than to speak and leave no doubt. Words to live by.

I'd like anyone who can find a post here where I criticized negatively someone's movie to please add the link in this thread. I'd like for "un-named" to see for himself that he spoke out of turn.

I saw that thread the other day and to tell you the truth I knew if it didn't change direction quickly it was going to happen. The movie making thing in IL-2 FB got a little too critical for me in many ways. At first there were just a few guys doing it and they worked well together sharing and such. Then more folks got involved bringing new visons and techniques in capturing and compressing, special effects etc.. Great right?

That process was somewhat painful, unnecessarily competitive and at times very petty. Kind of like a size contest men get into on occassion. Several guys stopped making movies all together due to the nit pics.

I saw that thread and just said to myself I knew it. I viewed your comment as just a poor choice of words and got the point about "compression techniques" as I always look to do better stuff. I see some did not take it that way and have their own opinions about the meaning behind the written word.

Do not be discouraged. I remember when an IL-2 guy Davinci came in with Stranger. It looked really different because he captured with fraps and slowed the game down to 1/2 speed etc.. Many guys loved it because it made the videos much smoother. He also introduced the Xvid codecs to the guys that had been using WMV format. I remember also that he was a little heavy handed saying that great movies were "ruined" by the WMV codec which has a small studder issue in comparision with other codecs.

That was not the way I would have handled it. His next movie Another Day was great, but some of the guys made negative nit pic type comments and he quit all together. It seemed like a tit for tat thing. He was one of the best hands down and the community suffered without him. I hope you guys will not get into that kind of thing in LOMAC. I refuse to be a participant in that kind of community. S!

My words may have seemed harsh but I didn't mean them to be. I figured we were having an adult conversation and discussing techniques. I tried some of the same techniques using SnagIt just the other day, I even have a couple of the clips in the video I'm working on. While the FRAPS situation doesn't work for me it does for many others. Some of those vids inspired me to make my own.

I didn't mean to get anyones panties in a bunch w/my comments. I figured that my preferences were as relevant as the next guy's. Either way, no matter how the vids are being rendered there are some awesome ideas and stuff coming out for our enjoyment. I'm gonna do my vids my way, and I'd expect those who use FRAPS to continue doing it their way. After all, variety is the spice of life is it not?

    gentlemen, excellent posts.

we shouldnt get nitpicky over what way the movie was rendered or whatever.

as rugg said, variety is the spice of life, too right

we obviously all love movies, and we (i do anyway)like watching other peoples movies, giving them feedback and whatnot.

most people on here have great talent, lets keep it and not be divided by petty issues

however, i for one like when people nit pick my movies, as long as they take the time to analyse stuff. when your makin a movie sometimes you loose perspective, and an independent opinion is what is needed. i especially like when andrew, uclanupe or any other movie maker gives his opinions cos i know that they have gone through the same thing i have. like rugg, i try to list what ive liked outta that movie, and sometimes what i didnt like.

i dont think this is the same as what went on in the il2 forums. nobody is going 'oh look its XXXXXX movie, even though its great ill trash it anyway'

as i said before we all seem to enjoy each others movie, lets keep it that way

Nitpicking is fine, absolutely no problem w/it. What you'll find is that you cannot please everyone. I had some people absolutely hate my choice of music in Carrier Ops. Then I had others say that it was the perfect choice. Gotta love that we're all different or life would be one boring suckfest in a hurry.

Stay tuned peeps, I have some "new" ideas being visualized in my upcoming movie. I have satellite imagery, night vision goggles, night illumination shots and if I can pull it off, super high res Maverick camera shots. I'm trying to switch between modes where the camera uses "white hot" and "black hot". Also did some flash for my pimpin' credits at the beginning. I've found that I've also been using skins by Mitch for my planes. Absolutely beautiful stuff.
