Okay, I've been looking around the forums for an answer to this query... so far, all I've seen are questions relating to the next part of this problem, but none reffering to where I am right now. So if this has already been answered... my apologies.
I am currently in the room just after the pit problem you encounter after leaving the bath house... the save's title is 'something is glowing up there.' It's the room where you're supposed to get your first Scimitar upgrade.
Hard as I try, I cannot find any way to get past the first set of falling grate doors. I've pushed the big statue in front of the leftmost button, and I've pushed the other two switches (on the wall and in the water in the middle of the room) but that last door just falls too fast. I've tried to find a way to put something on that second switch to keep it held down, but nothing avails itself... there is a pushable block, but I can find no way to move it up there, and no way to get Farrah down from her ledge to help me by standing on it.
I'm usually really good at figuring out puzzles, and was sure that I could finish the game with no help, but I suppose this serves me right for being so arrogant. Any help or advice for this problem only would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm,,,,odd that the princess is still on the ledge...
She is the one who stands on the button in middle of room when I play that scene....
make sure you've killed all the bad guys, maybe there is one stray one somewhere...
Have you tried press button and going into slow motion to make it to door?

Thanks, I was wondering if it was something along those lines... I've run all over the room, must have placed my feet on every single square inch of the place looking for ways to complete the puzzle... so I'm certain there are no enemies left to destroy. Yet still, she stays up on her ledge jumping up and down. I've even jumped up there beside her, and she doesn't move at all.
This could be a problem... I've tried the slow motion thing as well, but apparently that only works in battle. Otherwise it just uses up a sand tank to rewind.
It's at about this time that I wish I saved in multiple slots rather than overwriting all the time... that way I would be able to return to a previous state and try it again...

oh my...that appears to be a very small glitch causing a large problem.
All I can think of is get close to her and try to get to a place where she'll try and follow you and get out of that position...sorry.

That's too bad, sounds like you got bit by an AI bug / glitch... Have you tried running directly into her? You can push her around in the game, you can even take a swing at her w/ the sword. That ought to get her butt in gear!
She's definitely supposed to be down in the middle with you, because she stands on the switch which is underwater.

Also for slow motion, you can use that outside of battles....for example those scissor blades that slide, I use slowmotion to get through those easy...in fact in one or two places in game you MUST use slow motion outside of fighting (not because of a "glitch, it's the required solution to certain puzzles). In any case, princess only stays on shelf if there are unkilled baddies....
