Thread: How can I save the position of where Physics places my objects? | Forums

  1. #1
Hi. Let me try to rephrase since I have more space here. I have a bunch of scattered rocks that still have a foot or so to fall to the ground. What I want to do is TURN ON PHYSICS, let them fall to a natural looking position, and THEN KEEP THEM THERE OR SAVE THEIR POSITIONS so they will remain there EVEN WHEN I TURN OFF PHYSICS again. Sorry for caps, just trying to emphasize the important parts.

This would be a great way to give things a more natural placement, for effects like ruins and rubble and the such (without the gamer seeing them fall quickly when they start the game.)
If you have any ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks!

On object placement chrissmith72 recently posted this in Placing Objects:

"Also, in case this helps, when placing entities with physics, it helps to place them in the air over the ground, click AI/Physics so they fall to the ground and come to a rest, then click 'Get Physical State' (which is way down the RollupBar), and the objects then retain that position - good for realistic looking placememnt."

I had trouble getting it to work. But this is what you seem to be looking for.

Hmmmm. I tried get physical state (had about 20 rocks selected) and it blew up the CryEngine Sandbox. Just went straight to windows. I'll just have to try that again. Maybe one object at first!

    Thanks AEON!

Well selecting multiple objects was what caused the crash. I was able to get it working by selecting one object at a time. SWEET!
