I was standing on the wooden pier in Tay, watching those weird birds fly around the Moiety's "beehive." I happened to notice that I had Catherine's journal, so I opened it. I was at the folded slip of paper which begins "I write this quickly from my prison." And it hit me... HOW did Neela get this slip of paper?

It was always my belief that the Moiety were secretly visiting Catherine in the Prison. Her journals say she and the Moiety uncovered the method of using the Fire Marble Domes after all.

    LordGhen37,

    1) How did the Moiety learn of Catherine's whereabouts?

    2) Wouldn't Gehn have been on the lookout for potential rescuers?

    3) If they could reach her, why not rescue her?

    4) The firemarbles are only useful to power linking books which take one to Gehn's 233rd Age. Since the Prison Island is part of Riven, that knowledge would not be of any use in communicating (or getting to) Catherine. And in Gehn's 233rd Age, you know where you wind up when you go there!

    wstrohm,

    1) Gehn likes to boast, so he naturally announces to all the Riveniese that he has "Captured the Traitor Katran", thinking this will demoralize the Moiety.

    2) The Moiety are good at Infiltration. Yes, Gehn had the Prison watched from his Puzzle island, but it doesnt take much to tranquilize a guard, steal his uniform and go see Catherine.

    3) Gehn wasnt a fool. The Guards didnt have the combination, and he kept it closely guarded in Age 233. The Moiety would also be instantly discovered as infiltrators if they attempted to break Catherine out.

    4) Though they know how to use the Domes, there is also the potential use of Boats or unseen underwater travel that the Moiety can use.

Hopefully this can answer all the questions ya have. =)

And if you think there are some errors in the story-plot for Riven (though they really should be posted in the Hangout so we all get a chance to answer, lol) You will find them minor if you play URU (the #1 rule about linking books is broken several times: linking books cannot link to different places in an age you are in.)

A little topic change in true Hangout tradition, CK9; where in Uru can link to a location in the same Age? I can only think of one - Relto to Relto.

    As for the journal:
Catherine has a small balcony in her prison. She draws up water to drink and clean clothes. A Moiety can link into the age and stand near the land under the balcony and collect the journal one day when she lowered her bucket for water. That way, Gehn doesn't see them and he thinks that Catherine is only getting water, so nothing looks suspicious. Also, the spyware is only on one place of the prison, so it doesn't see everywhere.
