Thread: How high are your game settings? | Forums

  1. #1
I ask because I'm having trouble running this game at very high settings. I just splashed out on a 9800 Pro card (I was gonna buy one last year but held out for a price drop) and I still can't put the settings on max.

Well I can.... but the game gets choppy, so there's no point. I messed around for ages with the settings and the best I can get are some of them on high (Textures, environment, lighting), with shadows on medium. Shadows seems to make a difference. I can get away with water on very high, but I have particle and special effects only on medium.
The game runs fine like this.

My systems specs: Athlon XP2600+, ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, 1.0 GB PC3200 RAM (In single channel mode), Radeon 9800 Pro, On board 5.1 surround sound.

Other than improving the processor and getting a 9800XT, I can't see how to run on max settings. Any ideas?

    Everything on Very High except:
    Shadows: low
    Water: Ultra High
and I've turned off motion blur in the customizer. I can either play it at 1280 x 960 at 2xFSAA at a pretty steady 30-35 fps or at 1400 x 1050 no FSAA at around 30-40+ fps.

    I have an AMD 64 3000
    1 gig of corsair memory
    Radeon 9800 Pro
    using 4.3 Omega drivers

I figure I'll wait for 64 bit version to turn on shadows.

All Maxxed out, but light effects. I'm Getting around 60+++ FPS been up too 120 FPS steady before running around like on Surf map in Multiplayer

sometimes drops to 15 to 30 FPS in middle of a firefight! mostly in thick woody locations. Open spots it keeps above 60 FPS in firefights.
    And im usen a ATI 9200 128.

Forgot to say.... I have got the AA set at high, but the AFset to "1". I know what anti aliasing does, but not what anistropic filtering does.

Is it worth upgrading my 2600+ to a Barton 3200? Would I see a marked improvement? Would I need to overclock the 3200 to see a big improvement? I want to upgrade in stages for the other games later this year. Sorry... but I'm not too well up on the very latest gear.

I max every in game setting out in game except medium shadows and high particle effects at 1024x768x32 and get stable fps at over 30. I use anisotropic 4 (should I use it with or without 4x anisotrophic in the ATI control panel??) and 2x antialiasing.

I got a 21" monitor but what surprised me is how jaggyfree my display are at only 1024x768. So try that.

texture and mip map is all at highest quality.

I must say that Far Cry is a really well optimized game. Looks 10 times better than any other fps out there yet isnâ´t that demanding on your hardware relatively speaking of course.

Also what onboard sound do you got. If you ainâ´t got the Soundstorm that helps killing your CPU performance as well.

Your 2600 should be plenty to play the game fine, I have a XP2400 and a 9500pro yes they are both overclocked but it plays the game smooth with all the settings to the highest settings except for shadows witch is set to medium. One thing would help if your procsessor is unlocked lower your multipler and raised your front side buss to 200,something like 11x200 @2.2gigs and then you will be close to a XP3200.

I don't think it's at system performance issue.
Try using an older driver. I myself use the good old Catalyst 3.6 which runs the game flawlessly.
My PC specs are (see signature): and i play the game in 1024x768 32bit v-sync on, 100Hz.

    Texture Quality: Very High

    Filtering: Trilinear

    Anisotropic-filtering: Level 2

    Particle Count: Very High

    Special Effects Quality: Very High

    Enviroment Quality: Very High

    Shadow Quality: Very high

    Water Quality: Very High

    Lightning Quality: Very High

    Everything runs very "smooth".
