I found leaving and entering the harbour quite boring in sh2. After sinking loads of tonage i want to be greeted back at home port.

I think having ports with U-boats and shipping comming in and out, would make it allot more interesting. You could have boats sent out to escort you back into harbour, maybe even include the U-flak boats for air protection.

Also how about leaving the harbour with other U-boats, or did they not stick together leaving the harbour incase of air-attack?.

i think if they have really nice colorful and detailed 2d background art for the ports this would suffice. i'm picturing the backgrounds of London at the start of "Mary Poppins"

just using the sh3 control room mod for sh2 makes such a huge difference: it shows what good background art intergrated into the game screens can do.

the uboat pens will have to be 3D modelled.

and folks standing around to greet us when we leave the pens. these could be background art also.

and there should be music playing!!!!

I totally agree with jagtigermk2. There should be lots of things happening in the sub pens. Just think about the SH2. You just return from a mission and you get to stop the u-boat, and thats it no action nothing happening. It would be the same than just stopping at the middle of the ocean. I think you should inspire your game on the great epic film "Das Boot", and i recomend the same as jagtigermk2, that there should be lots of action on the docks, and ocassionally, you may add an air raid, after a very difficult mission, just as Das Boot ends. That would add a lot of realism. Also another sugestion is that if you have a succesfull mission, you can have a heros welcome, like lots of people greeting and the "Erzherzog Albrecht March" or "Das U-boot lied" wich are not just very good music but are the real songs that the Kriegsmarine used. And please make the pens 3D with an active enviroment!

I would really like to see the band and the welcoming committee on the jetty entering and leaving harbour, and tonnage pennants on the conning tower like in AOD. Even if it was only in 2D it would be an improvement. SHII ended so abruptly.

Agreed. In SHI they had "cities", which were pretty generic but at least they looked like there was something there. The problem with SHII was that each building was a 3D object, which was good but took up so much space that they couldn't put in enough of them to be believable. One modder did a scenario in which Kiel was full of ships of all types. It looked great but you had to stay in real time until you were clear of the harbor.

Hopefully SHIII will have some way of making Wilhelmshaven actually look like Wilhelmshaven.

I agree with everything spoken here.Building historically correct atmosphere,enviroment etc,in every available details, is most important thing for me.
soo...thats why i'd like to see my brave Kapitaenleutnant right in the action on the last night before patrol,and the first one after in fpp viev preferably
btw,since its my first post,i just want to say the graphics are far beyond my sweetest dreams of sh3.just marvellous

I was annoyed that in sh2(except the long way to Argentina?),you were always starting your mission in the middle of the ocean,only few squares from the mission sector.With no feeling you'd been approaching for 2 weeks,experienced so many weather changes,random encounters,accidents,surprises.I want to live through whole patrol from the very beginning,be really responsible to be on time and sometimes may be forced to not obey the orders due to sth.But only if im still alive, my duty goes on further.Even if i screwed something totally.
All this with "quickstart" sh2like option,of course.
A game structure like this would require very complex "Atlantic Theatre" model.I dont know if its possible,but im a gamer,who is here to share his dreams

As to starting and ending in port, there are several alternate campaigns available at www.subsim.com which do just that. also, the missions are both more believable and more fun.

Oh thanks m8.I'll try them.
I though all SH2 netcommunities were around multiplayer,wchich i didnt like in case of this title.Please forgive a lone wolfie for his ignorance and laziness
But after all, such an "enlarged experience" should be included in default game campaign(s).
