Thread: Crytek: What 3D modelling tools does CryEngine support? | Forums

  1. #1
Word has it that Discreet's 3D Studio Max is the tool you use for making 3D models for CryEngine. Now, as already pointed out on this forum coughing up several hundred euros for this software package isn't viable for most users.

Crytek - I'd really like to know what 3D modelling tools that CryEngine support?

    Kind regards,
    Peter

Max and Maya. I imagine the max tools *might* work in Gmax.

So you're saying that unless the "max tools" you mention works in gmax (also made by Discreet) the only option to make custom 3D content for CryEngine is to buy either one of 3D Studio Max or Maya?

As of right now, there is no way to import anything you create, be it in max or maya.

your kidding me. They released this powerful editor, but no means of importing models?

No one said that. The editor is purely a map editor, it has never been a full blown game editor. The rest of the tools are in the SDK, which we will supposedly have within a few weeks.

Depending on how they do it (they might have a small program that imports models and you can edit them for Crytek specific stuff), in which case you could simply import a model in max or obj format. Most if not all 3d modelling packages export to the obj format.

Lets hope so. Seeing Ubisofts track record for sdk it doesn't sound like it will be in the next few weeks. Raven Shield is still waiting for sdk, one year later.

I think we should see the SDK in 1-2 weeks time, correct as of now..theres no way to create custom maps..unless you want to use the prefabs that come with the game. The sandbox editor is a beta also :P Its suppose to allow me to run macros yet that menu seems to be missing altogether.

I'm praying that they do support Softimage XSI also, when the SDK is release. We also need more info on what kind of rig it supports, what kind of model format they are using .MDL?
