I was going to get a GeForce FX 5200; but after some "research" I decided it isnt worth the $100. im looking for a good or decent VC in the $130 range either ATI or nVidia, doesnt matter to me. I heard the 9600 Pro is good.....Any suggestions as to a good card that will play farcry and games like doom3 and HL2 well would be appreciated, thx in advance

No one could really tell you. There are no benchmarks out yet and no demo for us to test. My advice is to wait.

I can help u out, deffinitly dont buy the 5200 it really sucks. Your goal should be to play this game in a higher resolution than 800x600 cause it sucks. You can get a Geforce 3 TI 500 for $70 and you'll be able to play the game in 1024 res and maybe 1152 res. I really dont know much about ATI cards so I cant say much about them but u can get a 9600 pro 128mb for $125 use http://www.pricewatch.com/ to find prices.

well actually on pricewatch if you click the 9600 pro link you will see the first 2 cards listed are in the wrong category, they are non-pro version. the cheapest pro is about 136, which is still good. he is right though use pricewatch.com i would HIGHLY recommend the 9600 pro.

get a ti4600 128 or 256 meg or save some cash for an FX 5900 ultra 256mg, if your going ATI dont get nothing less then a 9800 pro.
-
You want some thing along the lines of an AGP 8X card.
Some thing like a GeForce4 Ti4600+
I got a GeForce4 Ti4800SE and it came with software with the ability to overrun it. I can't be bothered to though.

no offense smoke1, but most people can't afford a 9800pro or an fx5900 ultra. those are the best of the best cards out there, and they classify them under the "enthusiast" categories meaning only hardcore gamers with lots of money to spend buy them. nothing wrong with people who buy those cards but most of us can't afford it, and those cards really aren't necessary. my geforce4mx piece of crap card still plays every game out there smoothly without any problems. A 9500pro or 9600pro is fine for us poor bastards. Don't go saying that you shouldn't buy anything less than the best of the best 400 dollar cards. sorry but that is just bullsh!t man, there are much cheaper cards that will do just fine. there's a fake hype going around that you actually NEED a 9800pro or a 5900ultra. it's just marketing crap, you can run all the games just fine without spending 400 bucks.

A decent and affordable card would probably be a Geforce 4 Ti4400.

of course if your rich and have an extra $400 or so lying around, go for it! lol
