lol i got some information on the u-boat toilet.
The operation of a toilet while submerged is mainly just a matter of pumping out while not letting anything back in...
The toilet could not be operated below a depth of around 80 feet due to the increased pressure. Crewmen had to use buckets in various compartments in the period between deep diving and shallower depths.
The toilet, or head in navy terminology, sometimes was called tube #7 to reflect its use as an "offensive weapon".
Basically, the toilet has two chambers, one you can see and use, and a second that is valved at both inlets. The actual procedure is a bit more involved:
Upon completion of your main task, you open the valve to the second chamber.... BUT FIRST, check the SECOND valve to that chamber: if it is even a little bit open, you're in for a very bad surprise.
Pump the contents of the bowl into the second chamber with the hand-pump.
CLOSE that valve from 2nd chamber to bowl.
Check that valve AGAIN. Now open the valve from the 2nd chamber to the sea.
Pump the contents of the second chamber to the sea.
(almost done) CLOSE BOTH VALVES. Though a great practical joke to leave one open,it is one that has a costly payback. Oh, and don't forget to sign out as you leave!
