is there a way to adjust my speed to match a chosen aircraft in front of me?

I'm thinking this might be nice when trying to refuel in the air...

i don't know all the buttons yet

The J key is the autothrottle and makes refueling in the air really easy. When you push the button, it freezes your current airspeed.

Usually you just approach the aircraft at a faster speed by hitting the J key. Then, turn the throttle to zero. As you get close to the aircraft, hit J, then hit it again rather quickly. This will bleed off some speed and maintain a lower airspeed.

A good tip for refuelling (courtesy of Ironhand):

Get a radar lock on the tanker, you will see his speed in the HUD/VSD.

Activate auto-throttle (press J), and then pull your joystick throttle all the way back.

Now, as you close, you toggle off auto-throttle and your speed will start to drop. Toggle back on to keep the current speed.

Repeat as you close, watch the target speed.

As you get up close, you should not be closing faster than 10 knots / 20 kph, as you approach the boom/basket you should hardly be closing at all, 1-2 knots/kph.

If you did the lineup well, you'll get hooked right up!

ok..i've tried this...i was hoping for a special key or something...but it wouldn't be very fun if it was too easy either...

another thing...it feels like the american refuelingplanes are jumping up and down even if I have stabilized my altitude...someone know why?

arent they supposed to be as steady as possible to make it easier to get close?

I don't see them jumping up and down at all.

I do however, see myself doing too big stick inputs and oscillating my chances of a clean refuel straight out the window.

Drop back, take a deep breath, go in again.

Heh, you must not like the tanker crew very much, olaleier! Seems unlikely that they'll be having any virtual kids if you approach with your radar on.

    EOS is a different story.

Just a quick question: Are these features such as auto-stabilisation and auto throttle available in real aircrafts? Or is it just for the simulation to enhance the control for the virtual pilots?

You can see the buttons for it in the cockpit, so I imagine it's real.

I don't use the auto-level and auto-trottle myself: when I'm very close to the tanker, these options turn on automatically...
