Thread: Problems installing 1.1 patch. | Forums

  1. #1
I just reinstalled Far Cry a few days ago and tried reinstalling the 1.1 patch. However, once the installer begins to copy game files, it gives me this error.

Setup did not find a file on the specified path or disk.
Please check that the proper disk is inserted or specify a new path.
Unable to locate file C:\DOCUME~1\Username\LOCALS~1\Temp\_is25\Far Cry (Patch 1).msi

And then goes through two more fatal error messages and then closes.

Ive tried clearing my temp file and then reinstalling, but that didnt work. I then tried disabling my antivirus while installing but that didnt work either.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

only thing I can suggest is to uninstall farcry and try reinstalling again.possibly corrupted during first install.

I had exactly the same problem today. However when I checked the file version of Farcry.exe on my pc it read 1.1.0.1230. The copy on my DVD install disk had the same version number as well.

If the patch is meant to patch up to V1.1 and I already have 1.1.0.1230 perhaps therein lies the problem. UBisoft's download page describes it as a "1.0 to 1.1" patch. Maybe the UK DVD version was updated prior to release compared to other versions?

    Possible workround:

I wanted to reinstall, and patch, and had the same error messages.

    Here is what I did:
( **warning - includes altering Registry - usual warnings about backup, take care etc**)

    1.)Perform complete uninstall of FarCry.
    2.)Run regedit
find every reference to far cry and delete the whole key.
find every reference to farcry and delete the whole key
** please note that you have to search for farcry and far cry**

I also did the same for ubisoft, as I have no other products by them.
I also deleted every reference to the software product code, which on my system is 960A297DB69BAB04CB4B5E56A1E69562.
    3) Defrag the hard drive - this was the whole point for me in the first place!
    4) Reboot and install Farcry
    5) Reboot and apply patch.
    6) Defrag

I have now have the patched version sitting happily on a defragged drive.

Please note that this is a "belt and braces" approach, and i would suggest that it is only attempted if you are familiar with hacking around with Windows Registry.
