    Hi..

Im having major hassle trying to install the 1.2b patch(euro verson).

The game has installed without problem...and so has the older 1.1 patch.

When i activate the 1.2 setup.exe everything works fine..the "choose your language" screen is displayed normally but as soon as i select "next" the installation wizard goes visually corrupt.

You cant see any buttons to press to carry on the installation...i can move forward through the installation process by guessing where the next button is....but when it comes to actually patching my whole system freezes up forcing me to reboot.

In the game directory there is a file called "PATCH.ERR"

    Please help me.

Sounds like a Directx problem. Reinstall 9.0b and then try to install the patch.

I did my man....cheers for the help.

I actually wiped my whole drive!!...thinking there may be some mystery virus on my system interfering with the install. But sadly not.....even after reinstalling windows and all its latest drivers including dx 9b(and all relevant vid,sound,4in1 drivers)

But still no joy...i even download various versions of the same patch from different sites

I forgot to mention....is there anyway i can trick the patch into thinking i have the US version of the game....thus giving me chance to try the US patch?

So exactly what is it doing? Is it telling you that you have the US version? It shouldn't. Does it tell you that you have the wrong version number?

If the game works fine w/o the 1.2b patch, don't install it and play the game w/it. I didn't use a patch my first two times through the game.

    My system:

    AMD XP 3000+ @ 2.23Ghz

Sorry for any confusion,im not all that good with words.

I`ll try to me more clear....

Im using the euro version of the game.....trying to install the euro patch.(i did try the US patch but that blatantly told me i was trying to install the wrong version and aborted the installation.)

I get no error messages while trying to install the euro patch even though it fails to install.

These are the exact steps i take.....

I activate the 1.2b patch "setup.exe" and the installation window appears...asking me to select my language...so i select english and click "next".
Now things go wrong....the outline of the installation wizard is still visible but inside goes visually corrupt..i can still go through the process by guessing where the next button is,until i come to the actual patch upgrade....here my whole system locks up resulting in a reboot.

A file appears in my splinter cell directory called "PATCH.ERR"...the file is 0kb.

1.1 installed with no problems.....but 1.2 and 1.2b will not install.

    Please advise.

    gnogtr....

Thanks for trying to assist me.
I have tried to post my dxdiag but for some strange reason the forum will not let me post it.... I get the following error message...

"Your Post Could Not Be Completed Because:

The Message Body Contains Inappropriate Words: ****

Please make any needed corrections and try again."

    lol....what a drag.

Could it be because the dxdiag is too large? the forum my have a limit on the size of posts?

Do you need me to post the whole dxdiag?

I`ll check out the forums in your sig....hopefully ill be able to post it for you there.

No, it's not too large, there is no limit to the size. Here's what happened: There is possibly someting like this: xxxxsh (end of line)
    itxxxx (end of line)
It thinks that you've made one word out of it. Just copy/pasted it, and when it comes up with that BS, just find where it is, and change it a little. I really wish UBI would fix that bug.
