Today, I got my Power Unlimited (Dutch Mag), it has a review for King Kong (9.0) and has an interview with mr. Ancel. I'll translate the part about BG&E 2.
PU: Something else now. Alot of gamers want to know if there is going to be a BG&E 2 someday. Is this going to happen? Or will you focus purely on movies games from now on (stupid question...)
ANCEL: To be honest, we were working on pre-production for BG&E2 when King Kong arrived (!!!! ) That was a chance we couldn't miss. BG&E is still very close to my heart (weird translation). The story of Jade isn't finished and I would love to finish it. So if I were you, I wouldn't give hope up just yet. I don't know what my next game is going to be, but it's not going to be a movie adaption game.
So there you have it. We don't know much really. But for me, it's a HUGE thing that they were working on BG&E2 already. I'm getting really excited and am becoming more optimistic!
Yeah, I also read the article and I was thinking about posting it. I believe Ancel has already said about BG&E2 having been in pre-production before King Kong came. But it's good that Ancel keeps saying it in interviews.

But I can't help but notice that in ALOT of interviews with Ancel, he is being asked about a BG&E2. Ubi isn't blind right? So if they see that it already has some attention in the media, they may be forced to make a sequel (or tempted at the least)
I honestly can't remember an interview where he ISN'T asked about BG&E2. BG&E2 is the game what his fans and the press want him to make. Although there may not be so many fans of BG&E, I don't think that there are many Michel Ancel-fans (besides the Rayman-fans perhaps) that want anything else from him but BG&E2.
The problem with BG&E was marketing. If more people had seen it, more would have bought it, and almost everyone that played it loved the hell out of it, so a sequel would have been guarinteed.

Another problem was the actual boxart. People didn't pick up the game in the shops to even look at it. Seriously very few people would pay attention to a game with a unarmed girl holding a camera on the front. The picture on the box should be inticing for the consumer. Same happened to another great game Ico, which depicted a boy holding a stick in one hand and a ghostly pale girls hand in the other. Although I don't know what else Ico could have had on the front, however BG&E could have had many other covers.

Boxart could also fall into the realm of marketing, though. Its supposed to sell the consumer on the game, and whos going to be sold on the girl with a camera when Serious Sam has a chaingun and is surrounded by freaks of nature? Or when a Hellknight is staring at you, looking to take a big bite? Or Master Chief is pointing his rifle at you, saying 'buy my game or die?'

very true... that's actually my major... graphic communication. i'm a graphic designer for print media essentially. that's one of the big things we learn about... especially in my sales and marketing class right now. you gotta have something to catch someone's eye... i personally think the european release seemed to be more enticing with the "pink thong" showing... lol.
I think the boxart not being attractive enough hasn't got everything to do with the boxart not being the right one. I think that says something about the poor judgement of a lot of gamers these days. They see a bloody sword or an awesome rifle on the front, and it's BUY BUY BUY. Gamers should do a bit of research themselves, instead of just judging a game from commercials or boxart.

Even though you are absolutely correct the fact of the matter is that the general gaming public do pay more attention to ripped entrails rather then beautiful landscapes. All the members posting on here are however not in those numbers... we play games for the quality and detail of a game... but we are the minority gaming public.
To sell more units Ubi will have to appeal to the vastly outnumbering gamers that want 'macho' games. Now I know that they couldn't have had Jade weilding a rocket launcher on the boxart... but something other then a cutesy camera would have fared them better.

Awesome, Dukester! That is indeed the most positive thing I have read--ever, I think. Michel is not going to let it die. He will keep tinkering on it when he has nothing more pressing, and eventually it will come!
I honnestly dont think that the box art hurt this game, if you go into the shops and look at all the covers you have guns, swords, blood, explosions and fast cars (all very cool things in games) and then you have BG&E with its more life like colours and watercolored background. This game sticks out in a sea of games, it screams im different TRY ME. The problem is that the majority of gamers wont take a risk.
Now if BG&E was bright colors with Jade clubbing one of the Alfa section soliders with her staff, and something in the background blowing up, this game would have sold better, BUT people would be annoyed when they took it home and tried it because the cover does not represent the gameplay. I am not sure how well this game has sold, but i would be willing to bet almost everybody here has lent their copy to friends, who have played it and loved it, i know atleast 5 friends have tried this out and couldnt get enough because its just something totally different.
So when BG&E2 arrives i am sure that sales will increase by a large amount. How many other games have such a huge fan base 2 years later without the game being an rpg?

I'm not sure about the size of the fanbase. The active fanbase is relatively small, I haven't got a clue how many have played the game now, loved it and are willing to buy the sequel.
