Are you getting an error message, a crash, or is the app simply refusing to start?

And who said that the game was upward-compatible? If it was someone at the Apple store, they may have been assuming it would cooperate with the Rosetta translation software when in fact it may not be.

Duel core came with10.4.4 and game loaded but would not play. Uninstalled and
up graded to 10.4.5 reinstalled and game still will not play. Icon begins to expand and then nothing. Is there a place where you can download 10.3 and isolate it by a partition or something and then be able to load and play the Game?? I really wanted to continue the adventure

Found this in another area of the forum!! It works!!
The following has been reported to work for an iMac (running Tiger 10.4.4) having problems getting Myst IV to run. No guarantee it'll work (or work with Myst V as well), but it's worth a try.

Get Info on Myst4.app and set it to Read/Write
Open Terminal
Type: cd_ (that's "cd" followed by a space, no quotes)
Drag the Myst4.app icon into the Terminal window, which will give you the path to the app
Press return.
Type the magic line: chmod a+x Myst4
Press return, quit Terminal.

Now, instead of going into the contents to run the modified file, just double click on the Myst4.app icon.

Thank you, this is really worked for me and I can now run the program. However, is it possible that it can take me up to 5 seconds after I have clicked to move to another frame? Surely the transition speed can't be this slow. Would this be a specific issue with Macintel or with X 10.4.5? Personally I have no way of telling as I have only just got the game.

The slow transition speed could be due to your video settings/video chipset, or maybe to Rosetta emulation.

Take a look at the Apple Discussions search results for Myst IV, Myst V, and Rosetta performance.

I remember scene transitions were a very aggravating few seconds on my Powerbook G4 1.67ghz 128mb video card... so am not surprised they are even longer running under Rosetta emulation. You could try installing Apple's Boot Camp and Windows XP, and then installing your copy of Myst IV on that (it's a hybrid disk). I installed the Myst IV Demo in such a way and transitions were reasonably fast.

It took me a while to work out we are actually modifying the Myst4 file *inside* the Myst4.app file. So the instructions above don't really work. Instead, I went to terminal. Typed 'cd ..' until I was back in my root directory. Then 'cd ubisoft', 'cd myst4', 'cd myst4.app', and then the chmod command.

Yeah, ive got a new macbook , running Mac OS X 10.6 and have used terminal quite a bit before, so i would like to think i know what im doing. I have tried all the suggested above and googled for hours. I get the app to run but afer the 5 seconds it crashes:

I think that it is either a driver issue, graphical, hardware with the macbook or with mac os x 10.6.

So has anyone got myst 4 running on either a macbook, or any mac under os x 10.6? if so whats ur specs?

or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Transition speeds are slow even on Windows.

I believe it has nothing to do with graphics cards or cpus but the read speed of the hard disk. In a full installation scenary files are read off the hard disk. (Of course!) These scenary files can be hundreds of megabytes in size and it will take at least a second for the hard drive to read the entire file. The graphics card and CPU cannot begin their work until they have the file to work with. So, no matter how fast your graphics card or CPU is, it will always take at least a second for the transition to come on screen.

It would be good to play the game, i don care if it takes a few seconds to get between scenes.

Has anyone got myst 4 runing on an intel mac, if so what intel mac and what version of os x is it?

and has anyone got myst v running on an intel mac? if so what one and version of os x?

i am starting to think that the problem lies with the hardware and drivers with my new macbook, as rossetta seems to work with myst 4 and 5, altho v slow, with the other intel macs.

Have you looked at the various Macintel topics in the Myst V End of Ages- Technical Help & Advice Forum ?

Yeah, i have looked at that, thanks, it doesnt help tho because i can install both myst 4 and myst 5 without any problems (myst v using intel patch) but once they are both installed, both the apps start but crash after the crenn goes black for a few seconds, and a resolution change. and ive tried 800x600 resolution and its not that. so its something to do with the mac...

tho saying that i did get a "non zero" error when installing myst v, anyone heard of that?

but basically anyone got myst 4 or myst 5 on a macbook working?

Hi I have been trying to run Myst 5 on iMac Intel but the disk won't even mount. When I try to launch the patched installer. It prompts me to insert the disk, which is already in but, for some reasons, it won't mount. Any ideas there?
Thanks
Rob

Hi, the fact that your disc wont even mount suggests that there is a problem with the actual disc, as you haven even got to the point of using the patch.

If the disc wont show in finder i would:

1) try another cd and dvd in ur new imac to see if the drive is ok

2) then if the other cd's read try cleaning the myst v disc and try again

3) then try the myst v disc in another mac or pc

If it is the disc ur probly need to get a new one by returning it to the place u purchased it from.

or if it reads in another drive but not on ur imac then unfortunately it would suggest that the drive in ur imac is defective, hopefully not tho, in which case contact apple customer support.

please post back with your progress as im still trying to get it to run, after sucsessfully installing on my new macbook.

There are drives that are known to not work with Myst V at all. Even if the discs are replaced. I can't find a list of drives that known not to work right now, but if a replacement CD doesn't work, I know Myst V is up for download. I don't know if the download is free if you've bought a CD or not, though.
