So I guess the press was too distracted by cleavage to do their jobs?

Blink

I don't get it. Then again, I don't get why dudes flock to strip clubs either.

No really, it is this easy....

I for one think that it's about time... the industry is exciting and interesting enough to keep the interest of members/press already. Booth babes in my opinion are just attention grabbers for products that would be overlooked otherwise due to their mediocrity. After all, it's a trade show, not a peep show.

Every major company in the world uses 'babes' to help sell their product, this seems a little silly to me. I'm sure E3 is setting the Bar though, all Professional sports, clothing designers, Breweries, and Hollywood are sure to follow suit. GIVE US UGLY!

Mike, the difference with E3 is that it's *supposed* to be a professional press event, not an open sales forum. If it was intended for the public consumers it might be different, but for a press event booth babes should be wholly unnecessary.

Ironic though, the "Booth Babe" originated in Japan, and is looked at as a DIS-straction instead of a A_ttraction now.

When it comes down to it, their impression is simple:

Guys going in by the truck loads, possably 99% nerds who never had a date in their life. So throw in a few booth babes to cheer em up.

Ummm, news flash. I don't need this. I find it an insult. I ain't a horny lowango out for brests.

Booth babes always made me feel uncomfortable anyways. They say hi to you, you look at them and then you feel like a total perv. Or you ignore them when they say hi to you, and you feel like everybody in the booth thinks you're a jerk because you're ignoring a valid individual who greets you.

Yuck. The last time I went to a videogame event, I seriously did not enter the booth if there was a booth babe there. Unease is not one of my favorite emotions anyway.

I think an episode of CSI once insinuated that most Booth Babes were off duty strippers....

Dunno to the validity of that claim, but is sure seems plausable.

I think I saw that CSI (CSI is a great show btw).

However that kind of assertion is a bit ridiculous. I remember two years ago i got one of those E3 dvds, and there was an interview with some of the babes-- they were not all morons, and some of them actually have some gaming experience. I must say, if I were in their position, and the outfit proposed was reasonable and modest (ie forget it Tecmo), i might take the oppurtunity to get the money. However the large majority of the babes I've seen via coverage are utterly revealing, PLUS the initial fact that booth babes are a horrible idea to begin with = way to go ESA.

PS Brooke- ah yes. I recieved a lot of feeback from that (all good actually). I think i'm gonna tweak it a bit to make it sound a little better, but I need to find a place to put it where it'll be seen by a lot of people.

Ditto.

Honestly, booth babes are unescessary. Maybe it would make sense if they actually played video games... Roll Eyes

For marketing, booth babes help, and that's why they're there.

You are an unseasoned male journalist (which represents about 80% of game journalists IMHO) at one of the top 50 game portals, your first time at E3 (or the TGS) and have a couple days to take it all in.

Where do you go first? The corner booth with a nerd in glasses, or do your eyes draw you toward that hot gal next to the movie-sized screeen?

Obvious, right? For those of you who know games and what you want to see before hand, you might give another answer, but for most it's simple... go first to the booths with the most flash and skin.

Well, at least now more people will focus on games and other technologies. Instead of the "female regions".
