Valve is the company that made the Half Life series. They have an excellent copy protection system. However I don't think it would be usable on a nonValve game.

Either way I am just going to have to take my chances with Star Force, and keep my receipt.

One thing I would suggest to people who are concerned with not being able to back up their copy of H5. Check the return policy of the place you buy it from.

Make sure they'll let you return a damaged copy.

I think this copy protection makes more damage on the customers costs.

Because, how many people will have a load off problems and a non working copy off the game they have bought for about 60$?

How many will be pissed off, when they need to buy a new game for about 60$ AGAIN, because they scratched the disc with accident and couldn't make a working backup copy before?

Is it right to force a customer to pay 60$ more money for a loving game they really wanted because off a stupid accident?

PLEASE UBI, think twice?!

Regards//Rickard

No, I don't want to make that!
But I think it is rude, to make or even set a protection like that on a game that is so popular and loving.

Why make a hell for people who is buying a game legally and using the game legally?

Why does the activities from the "pirates" affects the good guys?

It is just about money or some kind off "collective" punishment, is that right?

Seems people are starting to be aware of protection problems, By the time Heroes 5 comes out it may be a GIANT problem for Ubisoft.

Let's hope so. Maybe UbiSoft will come to their senses by then and have some respect for their paying customers. If not, let's hope that Heroes V is a GIANTIC FLOP and that UbiSoft gets their arrogant pants sued off for allowing such a harmful Trojan Horse to be on the disk along side of Heroes V!

They acting as like SF is perfect foolproof protection(SW).
Every else SW developer makes list posible (HW/SW) incopatibilities, version changelogs. Whitch makes clear what can be problem and what was fixed.
SF do none from these just make new version and noone know what changes are in it (maybe they fully inform game developers on it, but i realy doubt it).

I also am an ardent fan of Heroes of Might & Magic and have been for many years; but in light of the dangers of installing StarForce on anyone's computer, I will have to pass up Heroes V if StarForce is included!

I don't myself, but it is interesting that Sony's "inept" copy-protection does exactly what StarForce does.

quote:
Quoted from the Article:

The viruses also only target Windows-based machines.

The infection opens up a backdoor, which could be used to steal personal information, launch attacks on other computers and send spam, antivirus companies said.

Sony also is facing legal headaches. On Nov. 1, Alexander Guevara filed suit in Los Angeles County Superior Court seeking class action staus. He claims Sony's actions constituted fraud, false advertising, trespass and violated state and federal laws barring malware and computer tampering.

I thought there was a similar characteristic myself with Sony copy protection and SF. I will also not buy Heros of M & M
Nor any SF related title ever!
