Evenbalance PB Staff |
Hello,
We would like to begin an open beta test of a new application for use in manually installing and/or updating PunkBuster software. "PBSetup" will allow users to install or update to the latest version of PunkBuster for one or more supported games. This program is designed to completely replace the outdated PBWEB command line utility as a more reliable, user-friendly graphical tool. Features: 1. Ability to install/update PunkBuster software for multiple supported games on an OS platform 2. Ability to correct corrupted installations of the PunkBuster software 3. Self-updating executable; you may from time to time be notified of new versions of PBSetup itself. A download and update will happen automatically. How to Install PBSetup: 1. Download a copy of PBSetup for your OS platform from the following links: http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/windows/pbsetup.exe http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/linux/pbsetup.run http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/mac/pbsetup.tgz 2. Place the file in an appropriate directory: a. For Windows - Create a directory like "C:\Program Files\PBSetup" and move pbsetup.exe to this location. b. For Linux - Create a directory in your home directory called "PBSetup" and move pbsetup.run to this location. c. For Mac - Unarchive the file to your Desktop (this should happen automatically) 3. Run PBSetup: a. For Windows - Create a desktop shortcut to pbsetup.exe from where you downloaded and then double click on the icon. b. For Linux - Change to the PBSetup directory. Type "chmod +x pbsetup.run", then "./pbsetup.run". c. For Mac - If the archive expanded correctly in your Desktop folder, you should have a "pbsetup.run" application link; double click this. For Support: Please communicate directly with our staff using our web trouble-ticket system for any issues related to PBSetup: http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=ttsystem.php&game=pbsetup In addition, be aware that PBSetup attempts to locate the installation directory of any game automatically. It does this using a series of "game hints". The "game hints" can be registry entries, hardcoded directories, or system environment variables. Although PBSetup currently detects the game installation paths well, there is a chance that we've missed some locations. If you find that PBSetup does not automatically find your game installation, please fill out a trouble ticket and let us know. Please include the game, your OS, and the complete path to your PB folder. -Hendrik |

I have installed PBsetup.
Once I run PBsetup can I then delete the PB folder in my Far Cry directory or just PBweb.exe? |
|||
|
DL'd, created folder in Program files, deleted three PBweb items in the FC PB folder, ran PBsetup.exe, added FC game, it installed updates, did short test online.......all seems good!
Nice to see you guys improving a (unfortunately) needed tool! Thank you very much for your hard work! |

With this new pb tool i will have two pb maps
The new one "C:\Program Files\PBSetup" and the old one "C:\Program\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\Pb" Should it be like that?? |

|
|
Evenbalance PB Staff |
The first is your folder for the updater installation, the 2nd is the real pb installation. Thats correct.

Wow, that was a fast answer, thanks.
Maybe you also have a answer why it alwas is lag for me when i play on pb server, but not when i play on non pb servers? |

Try typing "pb_sleep 500" and after that "pb_writecfg" to the ingame console.

Ok, will try that.
And the PBsetup works great so far. |

what does this do? |

Holds the period of time (milliseconds) that PunkBuster "sleeps" between processing cycles; the default is 60; lower numbers will cause PunkBuster to process events more times each second which also has the effect of increasing the bandwidth used by PunkBuster; Players with a modem connection will probably want to set this as high as possible

I am a bit lost Hendrik...
This is a client side setting? If you reduce BW that PB gets isnt this going to increase the kicks for poor conectivity to the game server? CuZ |
|||
|
|
Evenbalance PB Staff |
It's clientside and doesnt affect kicking for bad connections or stuff.

Nice phrase! So the problems with connectivty (assuming a good connection) Are caused by load/BW probs at the server end? Or am I adding 2+2 and getting 5? CuZ |

Well, nost times setting pb_sleep to a higher vallues help users, never heard of someone who had more problems after that.

I had a PB problem last night.
I have had PBupdate installed from day 1 with no problems. Last night I kept getting 0 packet flow kicks after 1 min or so. I went to PBupdate and clicked the update button. It said it was updating from ver 2.0 to 2.2 but froze with 5 sec left in the process. (tried it three times) Eventually got a program not responding error from windows. I then reinstalled PBweb and ran it. It updated my installation and I have had no problems since then with kicks. My next move is to uninstall PBupdate and reinstall the new version. Is that the right thing to do? |

Can you please open a support ticket with this issue? http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=ttsystem.php&game=farcry

Just keep getting a kick from PB. Mostly from a "critcal packet loss", I think that's what it said. Not sure on the exact phrase, but it was some kind of packet loss.
Sometimes, I get a kick for "general PB Init failure", again, not sure on exact phrasing. I have FarCry patched to ver. 1.33 and, I have the latest client files for PB. I thought I might give the new PBsetup tool a try. I d'loaded and ran it, per the instructions. I did not have PBWeb previously, so I was getting my PB updates BEFORE the new tool by starting up a Pasaword protected server and just running around the maps. Eventually, PB would update both my Server and Client files. I thought this would do it. Well, apparently not. I then thought I might try the "pb_sleep" in the console, set it to 100 with same result: Packet loss kick after about five minutes BUT, and I think this is important, ONLY AFTER SOMEONE ELSE JOINED. This was on the US Official East Coast server 3. What I mean is, I joined the server, no one else was playing so I ran around just checking things out for about 10 or 15 minutes by myself. Then, about 5 minutes or less, AFTER someone else joined, I got the kick from PB: Packet losses. I then tried the pb_sleep set to 100, same result: kick after about 5 minutes. Then set pb_sleep to 120, same result. Do I really need to wory about the pb_sleep setting? I mean, I am on broadband with a consistant 5.5 to 6 Mbit down and 600 to 700 kb up speed. I'm at a loss here, is increasing the pb_sleep number the right way to go here? I have Norton Internet Security Firewall set to allow all of the propper ports for Far Cry AND also for All Seeing Eye. Any and all suggestions welcome, I am at a loss. Thanks in advance for any help.. |

Please join a server, set "pb_logtofile 1", then get kicked and post the "pbcl.log" here.

Please IGNORE this post, look at the next page in the thread!!
OK, here is the log file, I had to copy and paste it's contents as I don't know of a way to attach a file to a post: [08.27.2005 10:05:40] pb_LogToFile = 1 (0=No, 1=Yes) [08.27.2005 10:05:55] Master Query Sent to (MASTER4.EVENBALANCE.COM) 66.180.170.20 [08.27.2005 10:05:56] Received Master Security Information [08.27.2005 10:14:40] pb_LogToFile = 1 (0=No, 1=Yes) [08.27.2005 10:14:51] Unknown Command/Setting: pb_writetocfg [08.27.2005 10:15:00] Config File written to E:\Far Cry\pb\pbcl.cfg [08.27.2005 10:15:03] Master Query Sent to (FARCRY1.EVENBALANCE.COM) 69.59.148.244 [08.27.2005 10:15:04] Received Master Security Information Not much info in it, and I don't see anything about the kick. Maybe the kick info is in another file? Thanks for the quick response to my earlier post, by the way, I appreciate that. |
