Hello Everyone,

This post is not meant to feed the trolls. I have been with Ubisoft since the original Splinter Cell. I have mad respect for Ubi and own many if not all Ubi games.

I am posting this because I am an adult but I have younger family members and siblings and have noticed recently with Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon there is a considerable amount of explicit soft-core sexuality and nudity.

***As a loyal player, customer and fan, please give me the option of opting-out of sexual content or being able to skip scene (much like what COD did with asking you if you were comfortable playing with the airport terrorist level).***

I am not shy, I am not prude but I really do care about my younger gen family gamers and would like that option to "opt out" of sexual content. I would hate to not be able to buy future Ubi titles because of an unclear conscience or a risk that while im not home, my family members could be exposed to stuff they are too young for. Thanks again for listening, whoever is listening. What do you guys think?

If a game is truly stand alone solid quality it does not need to cheapen itself by adding sex to sell it.

There's no denying that the Rainbow Six franchise is a mere shadow of its former self. Same goes for Ghost Recon, with the latest release being mediocre at best. Same also goes for Splinter Cell, where the entire foundation that the series was based on was stripped down and boiled away, leaving an unsatisfying, mess of a game. My question to Ubisoft is...what happened? Rainbow Six used to be the king of squad-based tactical shooters. Ghost Recon used to be intense, with pulse pounding action that really tested your reflexes. Splinter Cell used to allow you to be a stealthy operative, stalking people in the shadows and planning a route through a heavily guarded area. What happened? Now, instead of squad-based tactics, you get a run of the mill cover shooter with no personality, and a storyline setting that is absolutely absurd (shouldn't the military be after these hundreds of terrists instead of a lone special ops group?). Instead of pulse pounding action that tests your reflexes, you're marking targets over...and over...and over...with stealth mechanics so broken and simplistic anyone over the age of 7 could beat the game. Instead of stalking in the shadows and planning a route through chaos, you're running frantically from one enemy to another, mashing a melee button and having the game do all of the work for you (and all of the fun). Why has it come to this? Oh, right...I forgot...$$$. I know developers and publishers both have profit as their top priority, and I don't blame them. What's the point in putting so much time, effort, and money into a project when you will get nothing in return? Last time I checked, no one had food on their tables from a few comments on how awesome a game is. But see, here's the thing, making a good game will usually get a good buzz going. Marketing a good game will usually (well, this is more up to chance here) get your game sales. Good marketing+good game=great profit. Right?

Here's another important topic that I want everyone to consider. Should you push a series in a new direction to potentially get new fans (and more sales), or risk staying the same and not bringing a different demographic to the franchise? Let me put it to you, clearly. You should never change the core concepts of a series (gameplay or otherwise) and publish it under the same name. This is the biggest **** move in the gaming industry. Imagine going to see a slasher movie...say Friday the 13th...getting in there, sitting down, waiting to see some people get sliced...and then you come out of the theater only having seen a romance comedy with no blood whatsoever in the film. That's a bit far fetched, but the same thing applies to gaming. People who played the original Rainbow Six on PC aren't looking for a straight shot, cover-based, regenerating health, simplistic shooter. No, they're looking for open ended, tactical gameplay with a planning stage. If they wanted a linear cover shooter, they would have bought, you know, a series that's about running from cover to cover and shooting. Changing a series to bring new fans works (Resident Evil 4 is a big example). It brings sales. Most of the games that come from it are absolutely amazing (again, Resident Evil 4 comes to mind). BUT...that still doesn't change the fact that it's attached to it's parent series just because the game wouldn't get recognition or sales otherwise. Hell, I'm even fine if a game changes gameplay styles IF they also have a justifiable reason (within the context of the game, story, setting, or other important aspects) to do so. Also, if it doesn't have a justifiable reason, and it still belongs in the series, you could at least have the common decency to make it a spinoff series or a side series or whatever. Look at Metal Gear Rising. It's one hell of a hack-n-slash game. It's brutal, sword-slicing fun. It's also its own game, not called Metal Gear Solid 5, continuing the series in both main storyline, characters, and gameplay concepts. Metal Gear Solid is a STEALTH game. Metal Gear Rising is an ACTION game. Rainbow Six is a TACTICAL SHOOTER franchise. So, why has it strayed from the genre?

Believe it or not, the change didn't start with Vegas. No, the change (in my opinion), mostly started with Lockdown. Instead of tactical gameplay, it was infuriating run-n-gun gameplay where levels were reduced to killing tens to hundreds of terrorists with a few door breaching sections. The game mechanics weren't half bad, but the level design wasn't that of a tactical shooter. It was a run-n-gun shoot em up that focused on throwing hundreds of enemies at you. All in all, it was, as I see it, the middle ground. It kept a lot of the tactical elements, but focused much more on fast-paced action than tactics. I guess they were slowly trying to transition players into something else? I really don't know. The point is, Lockdown was a huge step in a different direction. On the other hand, Rainbow Six Vegas was a huge LEAP in a different direction. Let me say this...I enjoy Vegas and Vegas 2. I think they are fun games. The design choices actually aren't that bad, and the multiplayer is fun when you get with people who know what they are doing. But you know what? I don't enjoy Vegas as a Rainbow Six game. I enjoy it as something different, because it feels different. Why, then, does it still have the words Rainbow Six in the title?

Okay so...enough ranting, and back on point. Rainbow Six Patriots already looks like a good game (if they stay true to the target gameplay trailer), but does it look like a good Rainbow Six game?

Short Answer: No.

Long Answer: No. They're sticking to the Future Soldier option of way-too-advanced technology that I know can't be real (or if it is,I wish DARPA or whoever would show me it), regenerating health, cover mechanics from Vegas, HUD hell on the screen, button prompts mimicking Heavy Rain, and, again, a situation that doesn't call for a spec ops group. It calls for the military. Why a country like the US would keep one or two squads from an organization on the streets to fight domestic terrorism is beyond my comprehension. The storyline looks great, don't get me wrong. I'm all for a good story. The gameplay looks fun too. The button prompts I don't mind, and the interaction with the world looks pretty amazing. That being said...it still isn't Rainbow Six (at least not from the video). I've heard it a million times that you can't judge a game by an early trailer, but I'll be damned if the game comes out looking like a Rainbow Six game.

So, we've established that the series has headed in a different direction altogether, and that it needs to be re-titled, or they need to make it an offshoot of the series. What now? That still doesn't bring back Rainbow Six. You know...THE Rainbow Six. I'm going to make some suggestions on what would revitalize the franchise and restore it to it's former genre. I know devs don't really read forums much (too busy with the suits and developing games I'm sure), but I'm just going to get this out there. Anyway, here we go.

1. Bring back the planning stage, and update it with new features. I want fully 3D planning, with more actions than ever. Get this: planning in real time. Okay, so there's the planning stage before a mission. You can plan out routes, go codes, breaching, flashing and clear, nade and clear, you get it. On top of that, there's a new type of planning. Say, there's an in-game currency, and if Rainbow is successful enough at previous missions, you can buy VR simulation maps. These will be more detailed, and you can plan out missions in real time through VR. Put on the goggles, and you'll be in a 3 Dimensional wireframe recreation, where you can actually walk through your plans, and create more accurate orders by performing them in VR. This will record the movements, and you can give them to anyone on the team. Doing this, you can see how the paths of yourself and your teammates work together, which would allow for a lot less trial and error during missions. There would, of course, be a limit to what you can do (don't want to make it to easy for players). Maybe a time limit or action llimit of some sort. Since the situation is already happening, I doubt a spec ops group would spend hours in a VR room playing What If.

2. Dynamic missions. Different terrorist placement, behavior, and weapons. More or less hostages, with randomized placement. Different parts of the building are blockaded/open. All of this would be randomly generated upon loading the mission, so that you get a different experience every time. The map will be the same, but the contents of the map will be different.

3. Planning during a mission. Sometimes plans just don't come together in a mission like they do in your head. This doesn't mean that you should have to go all the way back to the planning room and start from square one. Allow players to put down waypoints and areas of interest in real-time through a device (like a PDA or something). It doesn't make sense that, knowing there are 4 terrorists grouped in one room, your second team will continue to waltz right by because you told them to frag and clear the room right next to it.

4. Planning in multiplayer. Terrorist Hunt in multiplayer should have a planning stage just like singleplayer missions. Planning stage would have a time limit, so that no one idles just to take up time. There would be 2 variations: one where everyone can participate in planning, and one where an elected Team Leader gives the orders. In-game, the waypoints will show up on a minimap so that everyone can see where to go and what to do. However, not everyone HAS to follow the plan of course (i mean, come on, how could you make someone follow it), but the planning would act as a guide for all team members. When playing as Team Leader, only you can place waypoints and areas of interests. This, combined with communication via mic, would allow for better fitting a player in the role. Since two teams are on the same map at once, there would be two Team Leaders. Communication would be split into four channels. Team A, Team B, All, and Team Leader. Team A would allow members of that team to communicate to one another, and to the leader of that team, as would the Team B channel. All would allow everyone to communicate freely. The Team Leader channel would be a special reserve channel where the two Team Leaders can communicate directly without outside input. Across all channels Team Leaders can be heard except for in the Team Leader channel. Players can also type out messages if they do not have a mic, of course.

5. Adversarial modes should at least include Hostage Rescue (one team CT, the other T), Team Deathmatch (no respawns), Team Deathmatch (with respawns), Single Assassination (one team kills VIP, one protects VIP), Double Assassination (each team has a VIP that the other must kill), Demolition (terrorists try to bomb a target while CTs try to stop them), Squad Deathmatch (4 squads compete for most kills), and that's about all I can think of. These modes should include in-game planning via an in-game tactical map that you can put points of interest and other varying information on.

6. No regenerating health.

7. No snap to cover mechanic, but leaning cover. It works.

8. First AND (surprise) Third-Person camera options. These can be locked in game options for multiplayer. I personally like both viewpoints. Also, Rainbow Six had Third-Person in the first two games. I know it kills immersion for some people, so the game shouldn't be built around it, but it SHOULD be an option.

I would add more, but this post is long enough, and I'm sure no one will even take the time to read through all of this. In closing, I just want a Rainbow Six game, not another Vegas or whatever you want to call Lockdown. Rainbow Six 1-3 were great (aside from a few botched console ports, but the PC versions were amazing), so why not build on them instead of changing fundamental gameplay mechanics? I want to see the franchise grow, not change genres and style. No one wants that. Well, to anyone who reads this long post, let me know what you think! It's nice just hearing from other people and getting different views on a subject. I really wish the developers of the R6 franchise would read this, but like I said, I'm pretty sure they're too busy to be reading posts on a forum. Still nice just getting all of this off of my chest.

I'm probably really late on the subject, but have just recently found out about this game from a friend. I wonder if this game's gameplay is the same as V2(Vegas 2)? And is there enough customization like V2 had? V2 has had me put in many hours, up to the hundreds of fun. I've liked a lot of Rainbow Six games so it doesn't doubt me to buy the game, but it would be nice to know first before buying it if Patriots offers the amount of fun as V2 did (like Co-op maps against A.I. bots).
