First things first: is there a site, faq or such with in-depth tips on Lock-On Mission Editing? The instructions in the booklet aren't exactly the best one could wish for.

Now, my problem in detail. I want a Tu-160 to carpet-bomb some planes on an airfield. The planes are parked, placed in row, one beside another. I set up the Tu-160 flight plan so it's aligned to the planes line. I select every plane as a single target and start the mission.

The Tu-160 does indeed deliver the iron, but not in the way it's supposed (by the waypoints I set). The flying penguin comes near the airfield, makes a circle and then goes for the first target, delivering 24 FAB bombs. A pity it's not aligned to the planes line anymore and blows up only one plane (the first designed target) and half the town near the airfield.

How can I apply the bomber bombing line? Is it possible? Answers in detail, please. I think I got the basics covered. Smile

Hey Mofous, try setting only ONE target. In the targeting menu, it should default to OBJ, for objects such as those planes you have targeted. Instead, set it to COoRD, for coordinates. This will start the bombing at that point and you get the line you are looking for. It would be really sweet if the line was visible in the mission editor and you could see how it will bomb. Instead we have to MANUALLY line up the bombers. It works and it's what we have, so I guess we put up with it.

Good luck friend! Smile

Ensure that your attack waypoint is far enough from the target that the bomber has time, speed, and altitude to make the run on the target. No need to put the attack waypoint directly on the target. Place it farther away.

This also allows you to have the bomber line up on the target by placing the next waypoint either on of just beyond the target. Works for me.

Also try designating a co-ordinate as the target rather than a specific item. You can set this in the targeting options. There is an option there for co-ordinates.

The bomber will then aim for that area instead of a specific item.

just how does one calculate that? is there a formula ? exactly how far in front of the attack coords should the attack waypoint be placed? obviously, it changes with the given variables. for alt A at speed B the distance in front should be C (assuming no wind vari) - is it like 5 miles? 10? is it that critical or just place it 'somewhat' in front?

also, can u make it bomb multiple coords in the manner u describe? set up attack pt1 @ coord1 - the NEXT wypt is another attack pt2 @ coord2 - will it bomb 1 then continue on to bomb 2?

is there a way to tell the bomber which & how many of it's payload to put at pt1 then pt2?

for that matter - placing a COORDINATES based attack waypoint some distance IN FRONT of (or beyond) the intended target - wouldn't the bomber just bomb the coords - i.e., won't the bomber set up it's own run and drop ON THE COORDS - not ur intended target??

now im confused....

thx - i havev't tried the bombers yet -

Yeah, that should do the trick, I'll try both methods (attack waypoint distance and coordinates) later at home. Thanks, everybody.

You're thinking too much. It's not that complex. Just set the "Attack" waypoint (WP) about 20 km or more away. Altitudes, speeds, etc don't matter. Then designate a target for the bomber. Either select an object or a set of coordinate for the AI to bomb.

If you're interested, here's a sample mission with a Tu-160 annihilating a flight line. Details are in the mission briefing: http://flankertraining.com/Hold/Tu-160_Bomb_Run.zip

Click WP2 and note how the single set of coordinates was all it took.

Hey guys, these are some great tips. Just what I was looking for. But one problem. With the B-52 I can't get it to drop more than a single bomb at a time on a target, or a set cordinate? This is the only bomber that I have this problem with. Has anyone had this same problem? Could sombody help Smile

Thanks Stormin, for the extra tip of adding another waypoint just past the target to line the bomber up correctly. This is what made the bombing missions work for me everytime now!!! Thanks Again!!

To get the B-52 to drop multiple bombs, only put load out in the internal bays (leave pylons empty). Also set it's target as co-ordinates not an actual item or specific target. Works like a charm for me.

Just a quick note to add that, once you have everything lined up correctly, you can safely delete that extra waypoint in most cases. That way, the bomber will break off immediately after releasing his bombs instead of flying all the way across the target area until he hits the waypoint. In a high threat zone, that could be very important.

Hopefully Stormin has passed the bug where the B-52 does not drop wing weapons for including in patch 1.02
