I have the original 1-disk Lock On. Browsing around, I see there is a 2-disk Lock On Gold as well as Lock On Flaming Cliffs. I know FC is the latest release. If I buy it, do I also need the Gold version? I haven't been able to find anywhere that describes exactly what all these different versions & add-ons do.
I just got a new PC, so I'll be playing as a complete newb. My old hardware didn't have enough juice. Thanks in advance. ~Vol |

Whilst the majority of Lockon disks were v1.00, the last few manufactured were v1.01 (ie. they already had patch v1.01). Once you install Lockon from the disk, check what version it says it is, see this link of how to tell which you have
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/99610606/m/5231051584 If you do indeed have a v1.01 disk, then you need the v1.01 -> v1.02 patch. If you only have the basic "vanilla" Lockon, don't get confused with v1.1 or v1.11 or v1.12a or v1.12b, these are all related to the add-on called Lockon:Flaming Cliffs (FC). It was first released as a payware Download. Later a single disk FC version was made, but not available in stores (only available from online stores see below for more info). A GOLD edition was later released to stores in the USA - it had both the basic Lockon disk and the Lockon:Flaming Cliffs disk. Early versions of the GOLD release had a borked FC disk and folks had to send for a replacement disk. There may still be copies of GOLD on the shelves in stores with the borked disk. There have been recent postings on the Forums of folks trying and failing!! to obtain the replacement disk as the PR company hired to handle the issue have run out of replacement disks - so if you buy GOLD in the US, you might get stung so be warned! Finally a GOLD edition was released in Europe too. It did not have the borked disk issues. If you have FC, then the FC patch you need depend on how you got FC - the D/L version has a different patch to the disk version. I even think that the European GOLD has a different patch too. All are available on the lockon english site. http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?lang=en You will find the D/L version here plus links to all the possible places to buy the FC disk version. The D/L version uses a version of StarForce copy protection to check your PC hardware config and has a limited number of activations you use each time your PC H/W changes. Most folks now seem to prefer to buy the disk version, the latest patch means StarForce only asks you to put the disk in the drive once per week. The only difference between v1.12a and v1.12b is that "b" has some extra stuff for Vista users, it works just like "a" for XP users, hence many Community sites only bother hosting the "b" versions of the patch since it works for everyone. But once again the most important thing about patching FC is to make sure you get the correct version of v1.12b based on how you obtained your FC. (download, disk, etc etc) Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum.... |

Wow. What a mess. I'm pretty sure I have plain jane 1.00 (which I'll up to 1.02 after installing on the new rig). Based on the issues with LO Gold, I'll probably try one of the D/L versions of Flaming Cliffs.
First step will be to simply play the game! I'm currently waiting on my X52 Pro which should be here in a couple of weeks according to Dell. Kon - GREAT site! I browsed around a bit and found all your X45 stuff, but I have an X52 Pro. Do you have updated info for that stick version? I know I'll need help setting it up when it gets here. Thanks guys. ~Vol |

Thanks- No I don't have anything for the X52 as I have retired my Saitek and moved on to CH products. However- I think SOME of the older SST info might still be applicable to the newer versions. BY the way- if it's not and this page is doing more harm then good, please let me know. I can either take down the offending sections or write some updates to avoid confusion. The first parts- the initial setup for lock on use will always be relevant, but I'm not 100% sure about the rest of it. |

I'll do that when it gets here. Are not that many people using the X52 stick? I thought it was really popular. Kind of makes me nervous now as it wasn't cheap. At any rate, mine isn't scheduled to ship until May 16. We also have a baby in the hospital with a minor infection, so it's liable to be a while before I get back to playing. I'll definitely come back here when I do, though. Thanks for the help. ~Vol P.S. Still trying to decide if I need to find a CD copy of Flaming Cliffs or if I should just buy the downloadable version. This StarForce stuff sounds like it's a pain in the tuckus! |

Starforce has not really affected me yet- but I'd love to see that company wither and die- horribly. There's no reason I should have any limit on the number of activations, and there is no reason that anyone should have to jump through hoops and play around with their system's registry just so they don't lose an activation.
By the way if "Vol" means Tennessee Vols- Patriots fans all over the country would like to thank you for providing Mr Mayo for us. That boy can HIT! |

That's affirmative, sir. Born & bred Tennessean. I even have a power T tattooed on my right ankle (seriously). And our defense was not so great last year, but Mayo was a huge part of it. He was alot of fun to watch, and I suspect he'll be a great pro player. I know we're going to miss him just as much, if not more, than you guys are going to welcome him! |

I just got the Gold pack today, I got a UK copy of one of my local Australian game sites. I had trouble finding what patch to get as I recieved version 1.1, and my copy is fine no CD problems.
I have just D/L from here: http://lockon.co.uk/index.php?end_pos=135&scr=products&lang=en You must register to get access to the files and there are 3 versions: US CD version, Downloaded version, and the one I needed, UK CD version. It is 1.12b and is able to patch from 1.0-1.1 Hope this helps! |
