Now it's a matter of you learning the systems. The Soviets- being the trusting, happy-to-delegate personalities that they were- engineered many safety systems into the aircraft to prevent the unauthorized/ unintentional use of a weapon. You must- of course- locate the target using one of the radar's modes. Whichever is appropriate for the engagement: BVR,CAC, or by way of the thermal site. You must "bug" or lock that target using a cursor on the HUD,(russian fighter)or the TV display.(US fighter) Lastly you must meet a minimum launch parameter for the selected weapon (comprised mainly of RANGE, ASPECT) before the fire control system will allow you to release a missile. Meeting that reqt. is indicated by an "LA" or cyrillic "ПР" in the center of the HUD I suggest you start reading.. Need help? Click sig for Kon's *NOOB FRIENDLY* LOMAC site & $20 off a Track IR

Helo's in Lockon are a more difficult target. IR missiles will lock on at shorter range as helo's put out less heat signature than jets. You will likely find that they are tougher targets to lock onto with radar too if you try and shoot them with radar guided missiles. Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
