Hi All.
I'm playing the F15 campaign mission 2 and i cant complete it. I follow those A-10s kill all enemy aircraft, but the mission never gets complete.
Is there anything special im missing ? How do i know the A-10s completed their objectives ? I noticed that they keep on flying until they reach an airport where they get shut down. How to prevent them from being shut down ?
Any help is appreciated!

Thanks All.

i'm having trouble with this one too. i am spiked as soon as i get off the ground, so i go to deal with that. half the time i get shot down there. (i'm not very good yet, still haven't learned to dodge missles properly :P) once i managed to shoot down everything i could find. flew around for a while with no contacts, so i landed and it told me mission failed. once more i managed to shoot everything i could find down, requested vectors to home base, and i believe i was sent to an enemy airfeild, being as how there was a sam there that shot at me on my approach. managed to get away from that, but my wingman didn't. finally made it down, and mission said "partial success." i have yet to find the A-10s i'm escorting. i'm really confused as to how the mission objectives work in LOMAC. in every other game i have played, there have been directives and indications when you are done. it seems to be best guess here. :S

They take off from the same runway straight after you do. They should pop up onto the start of the runway after you have got clear. Just circle round and you should see them. A pair of anti-radar F-16 should take off after the A-10's.

Deal with any threats to the A-10's. That should be a pair of MiG-23's and a pair of MiG-29's. AWACS should warn you about them, so you can easily pick them off from range.

This isn't one of the best ever designed missions IMHO. Theoretically your escort mission means stay with the A-10's until they land safely, they are supposed to go back to the same airfield that they (and you) took off from. However I seem to recall that they sometimes go off merrily hunting SAM sites and risk getting killed. I'd advise quitting whilst still airborne after you are sure the A-10's have dealt with the BMP's they are tasked to kill.

many times i have followed the AWACS directions and not found anything. is it common for aircraft to not show up on radar? i also sometimes find that i cannot lock radar contacts. i press my lock button and it kindof flickers the STT mode at me and goes back.

one more question comes to mind. you have to maintain radar lock after you have fired 120s and 7s right? i think that may have been where i went wrong the first few times. popped off a shot and got the hell out before they returned fire. cuz the AI don't seem to mind the missle comming at them, they will say on course and shoot back.

sorry for all the idiot questions, i'm sure all you vets want to slap me. :P i'm really new to this.

finally got that, waiting on the a-10s helped a lot. now on mission 3 i keep getting wasted. i'm not getting ANY RWS warnings from the bandits indicating they even know i'm there, but i always end up having a missle flying up my nose right after i snap off a shot.

Use the fact that you have AWACS and they don't. Don't have to stick to your waypoints, rather you can swing wide and come in on the flanks of their fighters. Then mop up their strike package.
Use your wingmen wisely, remember you can lock up a bandit and tell a wingman to engage him, then lock the next, tell next wingman to take him, etc.

Remember you can tell your wingmen to pincer left/right then order them back again or order them to engage bandits so you can trap the bad guys between two pairs of you.

You do not need to maintain radar lock with the AIM 120s, but you do need to maintain lock with the AIM 7s. The AIM 7 Sparrow is partially dependent on guidance from the launch aircraft, whereas the AMRAAM is fire-and-forget.

you don't even have to wait for the 120 to go to active? well that is gonna help a lot, what usually happens is i shoot my 120's in TWS, effectively disengaging those 2 for a while, but have a missle shoved up my left nostril by one of the remaining migs before the 120s hit. i thought i had to stay straight and steady to maintain lock on my first targets. silly me. Smile

i have a feeling i'm about to get the flanking lecture. :P i try that. i really do. but no matter where on the map i go, how i get there, they are always still pointing right at me ready to shoot. i go low through the mountains. maintain radar silence until i'm ready to pop out on their flanks. have had no RWS spikes the entire way. i even tried sending the rest of my wing in the other direction blaring ECM as bait. no joy. i still had at least 4 migs bearing down on me. methinks the AI cheat. :/

i have made it to mission 6 now. the first time, i'm pretty sure i did it perfectly, but my damn computer crashed. the next 10-odd times i got zapped. now i'm able to survive fairly consistently, but i keep getting "partial success". one of the migs landed, is that why? or lost wingmates? i tried strafing the mig, and i'm sure i pounded the hell out of it, but it didn't die. i am unable to get at it before it lands cuz of the SAM battery near the airfield. the tornados don't kill it until the mig has landed.

Mission 6 - to get SUCCESS you need to kill the two MiG flights, both the MiG-23 flight and the MiG-29 flight. As you noted, don't stray too close to their airbases, there be SAM's! Watch your RWR.
The MiG-23 flight is flying a BARCAP over Kirovskoe. The MiG29 flight should launch GAI from Kerch-Bagerovo which is about 50nm further on, so you should have time to take them one at a time. There are Russian transport flights around, don't let them distract you, your task is to kill fighters.

As for the Tornado flights, I think both the German and Brit Tornado flights are tasked to kill vehicles either in or attempting to reach the Gvadeskoy pocket.

Dont worry about partial success stopping you getting further on, as mission 6 is the last mission in the F-15 campaign

the thing is by the time i've cleared the first group, the second is within the cover of the SAM. i have been able to pick off the trailing guy and still get away from the SAM's launches, but the first always lands.

one time i remembered ECM jam. i turned it on and the sam lost its lock on me. i was all proud of myself, thinking, damn i wish i had thought of that before.

then i hit burn-thru :P

Actually now I look closer, there is 2nd British Tornado flight tasked with anti-radar, which go after the SAM's - my bad.

Also there is a 7th mission called escort anti-ship. Finger trouble when I (thought I'd) declassified to look at the whole campaign - D'Oh!
Don't expect to get success on mission 7, almost impossible for the strike force to get enough hits on the Admiral K since its SAM's are formidable against the incoming anti-ship missiles.

On mission 6, I go full burner all the way as fast as I can, I lock up the MiG-23 force as early as possible and whether this draws them out from their SAM cover I don't know, but I usually seem to engage them near the reservoir south of Belogorsk. I assign one to each of my wingies and try and blast through them to get to the MiG-29 flight as quick as I can before they can get to the SAM coverage.
